  • Summary

  • Bonnie meets an inspirational figure who was crucial to the Civil Rights movement in the USA. Pauli Murray was an activist, lawyer and poet who broke the mould. She’s the most influential person in the civil rights movement you’ve probably never heard of. As the series draws to a close, Bonnie visits her beloved British Museum to ask what is the legacy of all these untold stories - and how we can reshape our history to tell a richer tale about our world.

More Stones Finally Turned

Working through my election cycle reading of Wright, Ellison, Baldwin, Malcom and others, I came upon this gem. As we say “Just when I thought I had heard it all”. Bonnie Greer has opened my horizons to entire bodies of work I was not smart enough to find on my own.

This series has prompted me to begin my own study.

Audible only has episodes 6-8, but there is a wealth of information within those episodes that I will expand upon.

WOW!

As I search for more was to educate myself and expand my knowledge of black history and lean into more black voices, I could not have picked a better podcast to start with. This was powerful and the information I learned was new, fascinating and sometimes hard to hear. This is the history we should be teaching and learning about and I applaud Bonnie Greer for her research and the format in which she presented it here. Highly recommend!

Deeply Profound

Drives into black history with historical information never discussed. Gave me so much to think about and research. As a black history high school teacher I plan to share it with my students with the hope of them being inspired to learn more. thank you.

Entire series

I listened to the entire series in a few days. It was riveting. When I learned music history it was that the banjo was brought over from Africa. I had no idea about a black trumpeter in the 1700s. Good info for close friends & family musically inclined. Nor was I taught about the crushed head of Augustus Ceasar. It was interesting to hear who influenced Frederick Douglas.
Thank you for making this available.

Loving every episode! Listened twice!!!

Absolutely brilliant! This subject has never been like this in any of my classes throughout even my college years. It’s well researched, open and honest, and delivered so perfectly that I couldn’t stop listening. I would love to take a class or series of lectures from Bonnie Greer on this series and any more to come regarding Africans, who the various regions really were, how they evolved, how they fought, how they communicated through song/stories/dance, how they survived so much hatred and pain; and mostly, what I can do to help change their still-oppressed race in the USA. I’ve been educating myself for several decades now through friends, family, biographies, true stories in documentaries/film/researching specific historical figures/etc., and yet, I learned SO MUCH MORE about the TRUTH in this series. Please keep them coming because I’m hungry for more true knowledge on this subject.
