  • A Train To Pakistan Remembering Khushwant Singh Tribute to Khushwant Singh by Gulzar Singh Sandhu Khushwant Singh (2 February 1915 – 20 March 2014) was born in Hadali, Khushab District, Panjab. He was one of the most well-renowned authors in Indian literary history, having received many awards and honors for his literary and journalistic contributions. Along with his prolific writing career, Khushwant Singh also served as a lawyer, diplomat, and politician. Khushwant Singh was educated at Modern School, New Delhi, St. Stephen's College, Government College, Lahore, King’s College, and the Inner Temple in London. He practiced law at the Lahore High Court for several years before joining the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in 1947. He began a distinguished career as a journalist with All India Radio in 1951. From 1956 he turned to editorial services. He founded and edited Yojana, an Indian government journal in 1951–1953; The Illustrated Weekly of India, a newsweekly; The National Herald. He was also appointed as editor of Hindustan Times. During his tenure, The Illustrated Weekly became India's pre-eminent newsweekly, with its circulation raising from 65,000 to 400,000. Khushwant Singh was also a member of the Rajya Sabha (upper house of the Indian Parliament) from 1980-1986.
