Episode 1: The Jimokuji House

  • Summary

  • It’s August of the year 2012. The Obon Festival is happening in Nagoya, the capital of Japan’s Aichi Prefecture. During this time, it is believed that the spirits of relatives who have passed return to visit their living families, guided by lit lanterns so they don’t get lost. Throughout the city, food is left at altars and temples for these spirits to feast and the graveyards are filled with people guiding the spirits of their relatives to their homes in a ritual called mukae-bon.

The city is alive and almost every house is lit up and decorated in order to help guide the spirits…almost every house. There is one house in particular in northwest Nagoya on the street of Aichi Prefectural Road Route 200, that gives any who pays it any attention a sense of being watched.

This is a fictional story based on real information and real locations. The characters of the story are made up, but the background provided on the house is based on real stories. So please, turn off the lights, grab a snack, and enjoy the story I’m about to tell.
