Episode 6-My nation is a vineyard

  • Summary

  • Indeed, the great rabbis once compared to Jewish people to a vineyard. When cultivated and watered, we grow and give forth the fruit of the vine. As it is true today where even amidst the horrors and sorrows of war, the Jewish people have come together around the latest existential threat in order to rise to the challenge and defy our enemies.
The spring season is upon us and as I travel to the Sommelier wine festival in Tel Aviv, I wrestle with the excitement of seeing friends and colleagues, while also struggling with the surrounding political reality. And so I will drink to remember every fallen soul and those kidnapped to Gaza, and I will drink in praise of my nation that has risen to face our enemies in defiance of tyranny.
I say Lchayim with a conviction that reminds me, to remind others, that it’s an honor that we’re drinking together in the land and in the vineyards that our elders have cultivated throughout the ages.
