  • Drag queen advocacy with Brigitte Bandit

    #14 This episode’s guest is Brigitte Bandit! Brigitte (she/they) is a drag queen and activist based in Austin, TX. She’s known as the "Dolly of ATX" and is a cast member at Oilcan Harry’s, Coconut Club, and Cheer Up Charlie's. Their advocacy work for the LGBTQIA+ community includes testifying at the Texas Capitol and serving on the City of Austin’s LGBTQIA+ Quality of Life Commission. Brigitte was also one of the plaintiffs in the recent successful lawsuit filed by ACLU Texas that blocked the Texas drag ban from taking effect.

    Most recently, Brigitte made history as the first drag queen to speak at the Texas Democratic Convention. AND she was recently voted Best Drag Performer and Best Activist in the Austin Chronicle “Best of Austin 2024.”

    She is deeply committed to community and political activism, including serving on the board of trustees of the Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus, and is the first Black trans woman nominated to that position. Joelle has worked with many companies, universities, and nonprofits and has won several awards. Most recently, she was named the Pride Houston 365 2024 Female Identifying Grand Marshal!

  • Parenting trans kids with JOY with Ben Greene

    #12 This episode’s guest is Ben Greene! Ben (he/him) is a trans man, transgender advocate, and educator who has spoken internationally on topics surrounding transgender inclusion.

    After coming out at 15 in small-town Connecticut and giving a popular TEDx talk at Brandeis University, Ben has devoted his career to spreading empathy, education, and storytelling around the trans experience. He is a fierce advocate for transgender youth, regularly speaking in their defense at the Missouri State Capitol. When he's not speaking during working hours, he's delivering free presentations to parent support groups around the country and spending hours one-on-one with families of newly out transgender loved ones. Ben is the author of the newly released book My Child is Trans, Now What?: A Joy-Centered Approach to Support (affiliate link).
