    Chapter 1:
    I don’t know what to do in my situation. If any of you have heard anything similar to what we’re going through, please tell me.

    I’m a 17 year old high school student. I’d say I’m pretty average; I mostly spend my time with friends or playing baseball for the high school team, though if they were any better I’d probably be one of the first players to get cut.

    Earlier this year I walked into school and saw a new girl reading a book in my homeroom. I live in a small town located an hour’s drive from Indianapolis, so a new girl, especially one as cute as this one, was sure to draw my attention.

    I walked up to her and stuck out my hand. “You must be new,” I said. “I’m Matt, nice to meet you.”

    Chapter 1:
    The thing about Jake and Kate is that, like most couples my age, they tend to tell too long of stories. I know this is a minor inconvenience, but after a while, it starts to get irritating. I think they picked it up from Florence, my ex-fiancée.

    She told the longest stories. When our friend group first got together, she convinced everyone that we should be the kind of adults who had dinner parties and told very long stories. I think she thought that made us look smarter. Everyone played along, but I refused to. I keep my stories brief.

    But, on the night of our most recent dinner party, Jake and Kate didn’t tell any stories at all.

    Chapter 1:
    April fools has passed this year, and after two years, I’m finally ready to talk about what has been going on the 1st of April.

    It was the first of April two years ago, so of course, I didn’t believe my brother when he walked into my room with a sullen face and said, ”Our parents. Fuck. They, uh, they were in a car accident. Dad’s already dead, and they said mom doesn’t have a good chance either. Grab your things. We need to go to the hospital now.”

    I let out a nervous laugh, thinking he was just trying to get me with an especially messed up April fool’s joke. He was always the one that joked around a lot.

    When I realized the serious look on his face remained the same, my laughter was soon replaced with the realization that he was completely serious.

    It wasn’t the first time I’d caught my Irish setter eagerly scooping up grass and dirt with her paws, but it was certainly the first time she’d succeeded in uncovering something. Something horrifying.

    “What the fuck?” I screamed.

    I locked eyes with Jessie’s discovery in the ditch — a woman’s corpse.

    "It all started after we saw the comedy film called Tag in 2018. For those of you who are unaware, it's based on a real story about a group of friends who played an endless version of the children’s game. I think I enjoyed the film at the time, but I can’t remember now. After years of this gradually-worsening hell, I shudder every time I remember the concept that inspired my husband, Elliot.

    “Let’s do it,” He said.

    “Sorry?” I replied, smirking. “Right here?”

    “No,” He laughed, rolling his eyes. “Not that. Tag. A never-ending game of Tag.”

    Chapter 1:
    I was in a very bad crash following an Oktoberfest party in 2004. Yes, alcohol was involved. A lot of alcohol was involved, though I'm still not sure if it had anything to do with it. Maybe not in the way one would think.

    I knew none of my friends were good to drive, but the four of us stuffed ourselves into Jamie's car and started heading back to town, an hour away. The festival had been way out in the middle of nowhere, in rural Wisconsin. Jamie didn't seem too fucked up, so I thought we'd make it home in one piece.
