  • 16 Homecoming Plates
    Jul 7 2024

Tonight, the Prodigal Doctor comes HOME! Luckily for him, it's just for a visit.

We drove along Empire Boulevard, looking for a Plate place that would let us record a live episode in the dining room. Eventually, Webster Hots said "come on in!"

    • We ordered some very unique plates - shredded Philly cheesesteak plate and a house-made breaded chicken sandwich plate - and review them. Spoiler alert: BOY were they good.
    • We memorialize: Holiday Inn Airport & Conf. Center, Golden Dynasty, Cottage Sanibel, MacGregor's Webster, Beale Street, Barry's Pub, Zebb's, Greece Sports Complex, and Mike's dad's old office.
    • Mike reviews the 2 other plates he ate whilst at home - one at Bill Gray's and one at Abe's
    • We drive by the Rochester Trifecta of businesses
    • Mike gets "grease drunk"
    • The average age of a Rochestarian
    • What anti-improvements have been done to our city lately?
    • What is "Plate Terroir"?
    • A little Rochester TV Trivia

We hope you love this monumental episode!!! Tell your fellow inmates and escapees about the show!

    • The nightmare of dating in Roch
    • Emus wandering the suburbs of Cincinnati
    • Church summer festivals

    • A Fish Fry Plate?
    • 1983 Televisions

They're fallin' faster than we can memorialize them, so tonight we remember:

    • D'Mangu and El Sabor de la Isla
    • Bathtub Billy's
    • Allen's Cobblestone Deli (We hardly knew ye)
    • ROC Communications (Installed 80s car phones w. curly antennae)

  • 14 Tribute to The Don
    May 22 2024

He's the tie that binds all Rochestarians together.

He's one of the few things that East-siders and West-siders agree on.

He's on Rochester's Mount Rushmore, alongside George Eastman, Walter The Accordion Man, and Brother Wease.

He's about to retire after a record-smashing career.

    He's Don Alhart.

Tonight we give tribute to The Don, the greatest newscaster of all time.

We start out with some fun facts about him, such as:

    • How they deduced how long his career was via carbon dating
    • His interview with King Solomon
    • His coverage of The Battle of Hastings
    • His political party of choice
    • and so much more.

We reminisce about his 1982 TV special with Wanda Miller as they inaugurate the then-prosperous Marketplace Mall, replete with egg contests and raffles that truly built a sense of community.

Tonight we ask the tough questions:

    • Will people still watch Channel 13 without The Don?
    • Who will take his place at the newsdesk of honor?
    • Who are these other flunkies they just hired?
    • If a Dunkin Donuts goes out of business, does it become another Dunkin Donuts?

And the tangents continue as we explore:

    • What Mike did with a month's worth of leftover Rochester Hot Meat Sauce
    • What is Portillo's and how Marc wants to sample their sandwiches
    • The Schaeller's Plate
    • (Editor's note: There was SO much hot meat sauce on it, I forgot to mention the curly fries!)

    Finally, tonight we memorialize:

    • Kodak Park
    • Krispy Kreme
    • Buckman's Donuts
    • Panzari's

It's another festival of food and fun you won't want to miss! (Doesn't that sound like an 80s TV commercial?) Thanks for telling your fellow inmates and escapees (and restaurateurs) about the show!

  • 10 Healthy Rochester Plates
    Feb 4 2024

It's the tenth episode of Flyover Plates!

    You get to hear:

Dr. Mike's experience with pork tenderloin in IA

(and what condiment from east of the Mississippi might've worked with it)

What happens when you refrigerate homemade Rochester hot sauce

His encounter with a Rochester sports team down in FL (and what he tried to rename them to)

Marc mailing Bill Gray's hot sauce to cousins on the west and east coast

Mailing the Pope a garbage plate??

Waxing nostalgic about mid-90s Packard Bell PCs and RCA TVs (Get this: they did what YOU wanted them to do, instead of the other way around!)

This month's Rochester Plate was the DogTown Junkyard Plate. It had what on it? Wait... so, it was healthy?

For our In Memoriam Segment, we remember Henrietta Outback, Boston Market, and DeliSandro's

All this and a lot of laughs on tonight's Flyover Plates! Keep telling your fellow Rochester escapees about the show!
