  • WLT Featuring Young Women Preparatory Network
    Jul 1 2021

Imagine a world where young girls are taught, trained, and supported in a manner that provides the leadership and academic skills for them to achieve and succeed on a global scale. Picture a setting where STEM/STEAAM (science, technology, engineering, architecture, the arts, and math) instruction and opportunities are incorporated into young girls’ curriculum and extra curricular activities, thus encouraging them to pursue higher education and careers in industries and sectors currently dominated by boys and men.

As a result of organizations, schools, and initiatives like those offered through the Young Women’s Preparatory Network, we no longer have to simply imagine; these types of dreams become realities each and every day. WLT had the pleasure of speaking with administrators, teachers, students, and alum from YWPN to learn about the consortium of schools that stretch across Texas, offering young ladies   instruction, tools, and resources they use to achieve beyond their most vivid dreams.

Listen as these ladies share what it is like to grow and develop within a network that boasts a 100 percent high graduation and college acceptance rate, how YWPN has changed their lives, and why everyone must realize that the future truly is female.

  • Engaging College Students in Stem Education
    May 20 2021

Men continue dominating the science, technology, engineering, and math fields. Specifically, only one in seven engineers are female. It should come as no surprise that the number of women pursuing and earning STEM degrees directly correlates with this statistic.

Speaking to these realities is senior chemical engineering student Kaela Evans. She stopped by to chat with us about her experiences as a female engineering student—experiences dating back to her elementary school years, a time when she identified math and science as her first love, in spite of the disparities that existed between her and her male classmates. Kaela speaks candidly about her highs and lows and offers thoughtful insight on how teachers, administrators, professors, mentors, and corporate decision makers can more productively create circles of service and how women in STEM must advocate for each other and for themselves.

  • A Women Leading Technology Takeover
    Apr 28 2021
Women Leading Technology is a professional sorority founded on the principles of servant leadership. It’s CEO Kelly Flowers knew what it was like to be the only female on technology focused workplace teams, and she was determined to do her part to change that. Almost three years later, she, and now a full team of devoted women, are committing their hearts, expertise, and time to help more young ladies and women navigate their educational and career paths through STEM.

Kelly loves meeting new people and sharing WLT’s mission. It is no surprise that her path inevitably crossed with Fanny Dunagan’s as Fanny is also a phenomenal community builder. As CEO and co-founder of PathLynks, she helps business owners and professionals create social media content and video strategies and plans. Fanny is taking over this podcast episode to help WLT communicate its mission of leading with a servant heart.

Joining today is also Tiffany W. Evans, WLT’s SVP of Communications and Education. Tiffany is typically the one manning the podcast mic, but she is happy to pass it over to Fanny so that she can share her passion for connecting students of all ages with opportunities that result in success, especially when those students are girls who are interested in STEM/STEAAM.

Listen as Fanny interviews Kelly and Tiffany about many of the exciting events that WLT has up its sleeves including the upcoming Masquerade Fundraising Gala, a Career Symposium, the launch of a virtual STEAAM academy for girls, and so much more!
