Day 2 of the Gulf War starts out with Iraq having been decimated by the Coalition air campaign. The military action began at night and exploited all the Iraqi regimes known military weaknesses. The Iraqi Air Force was basically grounded at night and the Army was unable to counter in any way. It was in the first 24 hours a rather lopsided affair.

However, Saddam Hussein still had a few cards to play and in the middle of the night on day 2 he played one of his strongest ones. He launched bombs with some limited chemical weapons on them into Tel Aviv in an a attempt to draw Israel into the war and to divide up the United Nations coalition. This is that story in our third episode looking back at the first Gulf War.

In this episode, we will listen in as the news covers the events in real time. CNN has its crew literally on the ground in Bagdad as events unfold and they continue to cover it all live.

We will listen to a full interview with CNN star reporter Peter Arnette in his interview with the Academy of Television as he describes what it was like on the ground in Iraq, and what it felt like to be the last reporter in town.

Then we will listen as CBS News covers the estimated damages of that first night of action as we start the Operation that would eventually free Kuwait.

In this our 13th Season Premiere, we begin our look back at the Gulf War, Desert Storm, as President Bush leads a united World to push back the dictator, Saddam Hussein, from Kuwait.

This season will be broken apart into little mini-series of historic events in and incredibly consequential year in the history of not only the United States but of the World as well. We will be looking back at the Gulf War, the American and Soviet Summer Summit, the Soviet Coup attempt, the Appointment of Clarence Thomas to the United States Supreme Court, and the fall of the Soviet Union. It just seemed like earth shattering events kept coming one right after the other throughout 1991.

We will try to capture them on our 13th season of podcasts, starting with this episode as we capture the start of the air campaign in Kuwait and Iraq. It is here on January 16, 1991, that Operation Desert Storm begins.

James Mountain Inhofe , was an interesting man. He was Oklahoma's longest serving Senator, a pilot, and a man who served in office on every level of Government. He was Mayor of Tulsa, a Congressman and a Senator. He was a conservative advocate and a man who fought the Climate change movement every step of the way. He even famously once brought a snowball into the Senate Chamber to make his point.

In this episode we will remember that famous moment and look back the years he served as Chairman of the Armed Services Committee too. He was a tireless advocate for veterans and active duty personnel too. He was most famously though, a man who fought for the needs of Oklahoma. We will look back at his career and in our last half hour let you hear from him on his final day in the United States Senate, in his farewell address.

Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., described Inhofe on Tuesday as a "dear friend and mentor, a titan in Oklahoma, and a highly effective leader in D.C." He was an extraordinary figure in the Senate and in this episode we look back at his career. He died on July 9, 2024 at the age of 89.

Welcome to our look at the South Carolina Hall of Fame. Our host Randal Wallace is the current Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the South Carolina Hall of Fame. It is a title he is very proud to claim.

He recently traveled to the Landmark Conference for the Confederation of Historical Societies in South Carolina held in Orangeburg S.C. at South Carolina State University.
