  • Paul's Template For Witnessing
    May 28 2021

Paul says repeatedly, he will boast only of Jesus and the cross. That doesn't mean he is neglecting all the education he got.

As a student of Gamaliel, Paul would've learned philosophy and way of presenting arguments. Paul is displaying that learning here to present the Gospel to the Jews in Rome.

Knowing that his audience, Jews, consider prophets as the final authority, Paul says the gospel was promised through the prophets.

When you witness to your friends and colleagues, remember the technique of Paul. Be mindful of your audience and find a saying or a story that will form as the stepping stone to your witness.

Having built a bridge to his audience, now Paul places Jesus and contrasts him with other respected men.

Here is the template for witnessing: understand your audience, find a common ground, juxtapose Christ, and rely on trinity. You'll be a fruitful witness.

Go and tell about Jesus. The world is waiting to hear from you.

  • Clarity about your calling and identity
    May 23 2021

Today we are going to study Romans 1:1. Let's read it.

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the Good News of God

Identity places an important role in how we place ourselves in the world and with whom we associate ourselves.

We all construct different identity hierarchies so we can be on the top of that hierarchy.

Here Paul identifies himself as a servant of Jesus Christ.

In the second part of this verse, Paul talks about his calling.

He is clear about his calling as much as his identity. He is an apostle for the Gospel. He considers the news about Jesus a good news and he considers himself as a messenger of that good news.

If we have to be a witness in our societies and marketplaces, we need to get clear about our identity and calling.

Go and tell about Jesus. The world is waiting to hear from you.

The very last command that our Lord Jesus gave was, Be my witness.

The early disciples were obsessed with this command. That’s why left the comfort of their homes and traveled all over the world to be a witness. I wouldn’t be here if not for Thomas traveling to the end of the known world of that time.

The command “Be my witness” is still relevant today.

In starting this podcast, I am borrowing from CS Lewis. He wrote, I am not writing to be understood, I write to understand. In the same way, this podcast is not to teach, but to learn.

My hope is to become a better witness to our Lord Jesus in the society and in the marketplace, much like Paul, Peter, and Stephan.
