Politics and Biblical Authority Part 3: On Exercise of Authority - Romans 13:3-4 - Voddie Baucham

Is it true that the church and government have nothing to do with each other? In Romans 13, God gives clear instructions for what those in authority are required to do. In this sermon Pastor Voddie dispels several myths about politics and religion.

Politics and Biblical Authority Part 2: On Submission - Romans 13:1-2 - Voddie Baucham

Upon hearing Romans 13:1-2 which tell us that we are to submit to the authority that God has placed over us, our first reaction is to jump to the next few verses to find reasons why we shouldn't. However, before we challenge authority, we must first learn what it means to submit. Even when we are called to challenge authority, we must learn to do it in a way that is respectful. The respect that we have for the authority over us most flow from the respect and submission we show to Christ.

Politics, Government, and Biblical Authority: Part 1 - Romans 13:1-7 - Voddie Baucham

Romans 13 is one of the most well known passages in the Bible... sort of! Christians have been silenced often when dealing with the Government by those who advance Romans 13 as the "Divine right of Kings." But how are we really supposed to understand this passage. During this sermon, Dr. Baucham orients us to Romans 13 and begins to explain what this passage means to us.

The Basis for Biblical Ethics - Romans 12:1 - Voddie Baucham

Have you thought much about Biblical Ethics? Are we supposed to do right because of our fear of God? Do we do right because of the "Golden Rule"? What makes an action "right"? In this sermon on Romans 12:1, Dr. Baucham introduces us to Biblical Ethics and the indicatives that give rise to the imperatives of Christian living.

Modern Spirituality and Your Mind - Romans 12:2 - Voddie Baucham

Have you ever asked someone for advice about a specific situation only to receive the cliché response: "Just pray and the Lord will give you a "peace" about what you should do." Is that really a Biblical response? How does that fit in with Romans 12:2 which says that we are supposed to have our "minds" engaged in what we are doing? In this sermon, Pastor Voddie exposits this text and gives the church the implications behind this line of reasoning.

2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

    A House Call for a Sin-Sick Church - Revelation 3:14-22 - Voddie Baucham

The charge against the church at Laodicea was that they were lukewarm. Dr. Baucham provides the historical context necessary for understanding what that statement means. He then makes the case that of all the letters to the seven churches, this one has the most direct relevance to the church in America today.

The God Who Will Save His People - Romans 11:25-32 - Voddie Baucham

Moving towards a doxology at the end of Romans 11, Paul finally answers the question about what God is going to do with Ethnic Israel. The verses covered in this passage are some of the most contentious in all of Romans. In this sermon, Pastor Voddie Baucham discusses eschatology as it relates to ethnic Jews.

    The Mystery of Israel’s Salvation

25 Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written,

“The Deliverer will come from Zion,

    he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”;

27 “and this will be my covenant with them

when I take away their sins.”

28 As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. 32 For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.

Zeal without Knowledge - Romans 10:1-4 - Voddie Baucham

In Romans 10, Paul expressed his desire to see his kinsman saved, stating that they had an incredible zeal for God, but not the knowledge of true righteousness. Many of the people Paul was talking about would have been Pastors and Deacons in our churches because of their outward behavior, but God looks on the heart. What can we learn from this passage? Join Pastor Baucham as he continues in this dynamic series in Romans.

    Romans 10:1-4
Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
