That’s the question, isn’t it? • 165 | Where to Shop and When to Invest In Higher Quality Pieces
    Aug 8 2024

As I approach my 40th birthday this fall, I’m noticing a shift in myself and other women my age. At some point in our 30s and 40s, we seem to start losing our love of chasing trends and develop a deep desire to have a quality wardrobe that lasts. We want to feel mature and look more polished. We want to look stylish in an effortless way without sacrificing our comfort. And as working women and moms, we want outfits that meet the demands of our lives — our real lives — not the Instagram highlight reel or the galavanting versions of ourselves we were a decade or so ago in college and early adulthood.

We’re growing up and we want our wardrobes to reflect who we are today. So, if you’re anything like me or our friend, Tomi, who sent in today’s Q&A Thursday topics, you want to know where you’re supposed to shop and when to invest in higher quality pieces. It can feel intimidating to start thinking about your wardrobe with purpose and intention. But in this episode, we’re going to make it easy to find what you want and to know exactly what you need to build a wardrobe you love, and that will last.

  • 164 | How to Create a Capsule Wardrobe That Feels Right for You
    Aug 5 2024

We need to talk about pre-assembled, done-for-you capsule wardrobes for a minute. I love the idea of keeping things simple and eliminating the guesswork as much as the next gal. Sure, you can follow one of these guides or checklists each season and wind up with a few great pieces you love. The colors might coordinate effortlessly. It might land perfectly within your budget. But can you ever truly feel like yourself when you’re trying to look like somebody else?

I ran a Google search on “2024 capsule wardrobe” and the results were astounding. 9 out of 10 images that came up were comprised of classic pieces. They all had: basic white tees, denim button down blouses, quintessential khaki trench coats, some kind of black cardigan or blazer, the same exact ivory, beige, medium wash denim, and black assortment of pants, and —if we’re getting wild— maybe a piece or two in olive green or pure red for a much needed splash of color. Friend, they’re all the same!

Now, I’m sure there are some outliers and you’re welcome to enlighten me with your favorite capsule finds. But why are we all curating our closets in the exact same cookie-cutter way? We’re all unique! Our tastes vary! Our bodies and coloring are one-of-a-kind! Our calendars consist of so many different activities! And I think this is why we’re feeling bored, frustrated, and confused when it comes to getting dressed.

So today, let’s stop defaulting to what everyone else is doing and take a personalized approach at creating our capsule wardrobes. I want you to have clothing and accessories that mix and match effortlessly AND that feel right for you. If that sounds good, then you’ve come to the right place. Let’s go, friend!
