Though Violet tries hard to fashion the first home for herself that she has ever known, she finds that the past is intrusive and insistent. The countries of her childhood have a message to tell her. It is through falling in love and unburdening an untold story that Violet can reconcile the girl she was with the woman she is. In particular, she must grieve and express gratitude to the United Nations Peacekeeping soldier who saved her life during the Rwandan Genocide.'
