Hard Feelings with Jennette McCurdy

By: Lemonada Media
  • Summary

  • Jennette McCurdy doesn't give a f*ck. Except that she does. She gives many f*cks. So many, in fact, that she hurts constantly. "This is what it means to be human," Jennette said in an exclusive quote for this podcast description. She said it with her chin in her palm, taking herself seriously.

i don’t think friendships are necessarily a forever thing. i think sometimes it’s beneficial to end them. in my twenties, i tried to stay in expired friendships where the dynamic was doing me a disservice. in this episode, i talk through two examples of when i ended “key” friendships in my life.

“doctor week” is a week i dread every year. it’s a week where i stuff as many doctor’s appointments in as possible because i dread them so much that i want to get them all over with as quickly as possible. this time, the appointments were a mammogram, ultrasound, pap smear, genetic testing, and an egg freezing consultation. i talk about what these appointments brought up for me emotionally, in the most i-have-zero-credentials-and-am-clearly-not-a-doctor sort of way.

in this episode i delve into loyalty and, more specifically, what an issue i think it presents in certain relationships. the key relationship that comes to mind for me is the one with my “dad”. to understand why i put “dad” in quotes, you’re gonna have to listen to the episode. mormon punch recipe: 1 part sprite, 1 part rainbow sherbet, 1 dollop of whipped cream, ice to taste.

Jenette is just truthful and honestly I think we would be good friends if we ever met in person.

I have always like Jenette. I was a big fan of her back when I was a kid, but now I absolutely love her...the way she is so raw and honest in her journey. I looked up to her Character Sam in iCarly because she portrait someone who was confident and didn't take crap from anyone. I needed that then as I was in a hard place in life growing up. I hate that that time was the hardest for Jenette. I always thought of her Character Sam not as a disgusting person, but as a strong individual. As an adult now, I look up to her as being someone who has the stones to actually be honest, not just with herself, but with the world. An amazing woman! Much love for Jenette!

Jannette McCurdy so unbelievably beautiful and complex

You would’ve never known, unless you listened to her audiobook, but this podcast series is just a continuation of what’s already been told

Amazingly Authentic and Relatable!!!

I grew up watching Jennette McCurdy on those shows I shall not name and have always felt drawn to getting to know the person behind the character. As much as I found humor in the character she played, the only times I felt I was seeing Jennette was when she was displaying her anger through humor, and from reading her book and listening to the podcast, I now realize I was seeing the smallest sliver of her internal struggle in those moments.
After reading her book and listening to this podcast, having the privilege of experiencing her unaltered/ unstunted authenticity and vulnerability often brings me to tears! She’s so relatable and listening to all the wisdom she has gained through her journey while being open and honest about things she is still working on has been incredibly refreshing and inspiring to my own journey!
If Janette ever reads this review, i want her to know that she is one of my top 5 favorite AUTHORS (George Orwell and Maya Angelou are in that category as well) and she so resilient and inspiring.
