    In this episode, host Greg Owens speaks to Duncan about his musical homecoming, making his debut at The Barbican with the esteemed LSO.

    Today I'm Having a GAS™ with Jeff Ellis, a Grammy Award-winning recording engineer and multiple time Grammy-nominated mix engineer. We speak in-depth about Frank Ocean and Jeff's more recent work with artists like Doja Cat and d4vd.

    “I got my start at the famed EastWest Studios in Hollywood California, (formerly United/Western Recorders) where artists such as Frank Sinatra and The Beach Boys once recorded. I worked with countless top artists during my tenure at EastWest and rose through the ranks to become one of their main engineers."

    In 2011, Jeff left EastWest Studios to engineer Frank Ocean's channel ORANGE. The Album was a critical success, earning him a 2012 Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album, as well as nominations for Album of the Year and Record of the Year. The album includes the Platinum selling single 'Thinkin' Bout You' which was his first platinum selling mix. Jeff would continue as Frank Oceans engineer during the recording of his follow up album Blonde.

    After the release of Blonde, Jeff transitioned to focusing on mixing and has since worked with many other notable artists such as Doja Cat, JOJI, The Neighborhood, Kali Uchis, Rico Nasty, Snow Aalegra, Omar Apollo, Vance Joy and many more.

    In 2021 Jeff returned home to EastWest studios as a permanent resident mixer in Studio 4.

    According to Wikipedia... Chris Gehringer was born in Teaneck, New Jersey and raised in Bergen County. After graduating from Pascack Hills High School in Montvale, New Jersey, he attended the Institute of Audio Research.

    His first job in the industry was at Greene Street Recording and from there, he went on to work as a cutting assistant at Trutone Records.

    In 1985, Gehringer joined Tom Coyne and Herbie Powers at Frankford-Wayne Mastering and mastered primarily dance and R&B records throughout the 1980s.

    In 1988, he moved to the Hit Factory and in his 12 years there, mastered many landmark releases in Rap and Hip-Hop, including records by Naughty By Nature, Mobb Deep, Wu Tang Clan and PM Dawn.

    In 2000, he joined Sterling Sound as a senior mastering engineer and in 2016, Gehringer became a partner at Sterling Sound.

    According to Wikipedia... Brandon Campbell is an American music composer for film, TV and video games and is best known for his music contributions to TV series' like Game of Thrones and Person of Interest and movies such as The Thinning and The Great Wall.

    After graduating from the University of Rochester he interned at Hans Zimmer's studio, Remote Control Productions and later served as an assistant to Ramin Djawadi. Campbell ventured off on his own in with the film Where Love Found Me, and later that year wrote the music for the thriller The Thinning.

    As an additional composer Campbell has written music for TV shows, films and video games like Breakout Kings (2011–2012), Medal of Honor: Warfighter (2012), The House of Magic (2013), Person of Interest (2011–2016), The Strain (2014–2017), Dracula Untold (2014), Warcraft (2016), Gears of War 4 (2016), Prison Break (2005–2017), A Wrinkle in Time (2018), The Ravine (2021) and Eternals (2021).

    In 2018, Campbell composed the score for the drama-comedy Funny Story. He co-composed the score for the film Slender Man with Ramin Djawadi, created additional music for Gears 5 and co-composed the second episode of Apple TV+'s series Amazing Stories with Djawadi.

    Campbell is also composing music for Netflix's The Letter for the King. He also scored music for Pacific Rim: The Black, the anime series based on Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim: Uprising. Campbell co-composed music for the Amazon Games video game New World and the Square Enix video game The Diofield Chronicle with Djawadi. Campbell received an Daytime Emmy Award in 2021 for Music Direction and Composition for a Drama Series for NETFLIX’s The Letter for the King.
