  • The ways to improve British Cycling
    Mar 8 2023

The Athlete Experience is filled with many challenges on the road to achieving a career in a sport. If no career comes about then the experience that the athlete accumulates is often transferred into discipline, order and commitment in other aspects of their lives.

Seb Ottley is a Racer and Race Organiser with RCR Fat Creations Cycling. He uses his Athlete Experience to help create some of the most innovative, exciting and close racing available on the British Cycling Domestic Calendar.

In this chat we discuss every aspect of what is causing the Domestic Cycling – that once was so great – to decline exponentially year on year. During this conversation we go into the cost, reality and dreams of what racing could look like on these shores.

He is also organising a race on April 1st, on the World Championship Course at Goodwood Race Track. If you would like to enter the race where Zeb Kyffin won, and Dan Bigham showed, follow the link here: https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/276411/RCR-Fatcreations-Mens-and-Womens-Road-Race

I hope you enjoyed this episode and remember to let us know what you would like to see from the British Cycling scene in 2023 and beyond.

We've all dabbled in sport at one time or another. Let me know your athlete experience in the comments down below.

  • The future of triathlon
    Jan 17 2023

Welcome to The Chopper House Podcast. Coming up in this episode of the 'Ever Wonder' Series at The Chopper House:

The podcast to start off the year is with Dan Dixon. A British Triathlete from the North East capital of Newcastle. A young triathlete at the age of 20 years old. He is finding his feet on his journey to the top of Triathlon. Experiencing the ups and downs of sport and take the lessons on board as quickly as he can, from the highs of Commonwealth Games in Birmingham to the lows of falling back in a season long target.

I resonated with a lot of what he said in this podcast episode, showing wisdom and experience beyond his years. Dan has been taking an alternative route to other triathletes, skipping the 'university route' as he describes. I hope you enjoy this conversation. Dan Dixon. Keep an eye on that name. He has a big future ahead.

    Nov 1 2022

Welcome to The Chopper House Podcast. A podcast you can listen to on the go. Whether you're on the way to work, school or even in the middle of training.

Coming up in this episode of the 'Ever Wonder' Series at The Chopper House: I chat with the man behind Monument Cycling – Owen Lake – about the descent of the British Domestic Scene, and what he is doing to ensure its salvation.

We also discuss the challenges of organising a cycle race in the UK and how he's using his knowledge in digital production to improve the face of British Cycling.

The key difference to other podcasts, is that the people I interview are following their dreams right now. And they are NOT finished. They're only getting started. I want to capture the rawness of facing challenges and tests on the road to achieving what you want.

  • Your guide to life after university
    Aug 25 2022

It’s a daunting period, graduating from uni, as we are thrust into the next stage of life with a sheet of paper showing you’re qualified for a job you may or may not want.

To discuss this further we invited Josh Copley to the Chopper House during the graduation period.

I thought it timely to pick his brains about his time a year on from graduating from the University of Surrey.

    He talks about:

    • His routine, and how productivity keeps him focussed when times of stress show through and high workload build up.
    • Uni of Surrey Cycling and Triathlon club, which he passed the reins over to Zak Snell in the 2021/22 academic year.
    • Converting his passion as a cyclist into a functional love for his current sport, Hockey.

I hope you enjoy your time at The Chopper House, and here shoes are worn as we never know when we need to take the next step into the unknown.

  • Is this the ideal social media?
    Jun 22 2022

In the first episode of The Chopper House Ever Wonder Series, I chat with my mate Zak Snell on what the ideal social media looks like. In addition to his experiences of Social Media, and how he's got the stage he is now in with the relationship to social media platforms.

He also chats his ideal social media and what, if anything, the platforms can do to help the consumer.

Or is it entirely down to the consumer to restrict phone time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments, any and all good ones will be read out next week.

You can find Zak Snell on Instagram and Twitter @ZakSnell (one of the few that get their real name as the tag)

Follow The Chopper House on Instagram and Twitter also @TheChopperHouse and let us know your feedback on the first episode of this podcasting journey. It's raw, and a few errors as expected but by golly it was fun to make with Zak.

I hope you enjoy your time at The Chopper House, and here shoes are worn as we never know when we need to take the next step into the unknown.
