  • Episode #44 - Erika Garcia - Educator & Flower Farmer
    Jul 10 2024

Erika Garcia is a woman of many hats - she owns her own flower, veggie, and farm stand called Bloom Country Farms and she also founded Hometown Collective Studios - which focuses on Creative Classes for kids and adults. Their services range from language programs, learning programs, and development programs.

Erika has created a staple for the local Latino community to find comfort in. She explains that sometimes those can be intimidated by learning a new language for the first time. Working in her studio allows those to feel comfortable while learning at their own pace.

With the East End community changing, we discuss what we can do to stick together as a town to keep ourselves a float in this ever difficult housing and rental market. We discuss topics of life, interests, and personal development.

    May 20 2024

Jonny Nature aka Jonathon Macris is an environmentalist, photographer, and total lover of nature. Jonny believes that we can all get to a better place within ourselves by connecting back to the earth.

Living in Indiana, Jonny's facing challenges of over-development right within his own backyard and throughout some of Indiana's most precious perseveres. This inspired Jonny to really get out there and start getting vocal about his journey through nature. Starting his own native preserve, he creates and shares his influential content via social media (@jonnynature on Instagram and YouTube) and actively takes care of large properties in which he plants only native plantings. His mission is simple: to restore Indiana back to a more natural and native condition, and to fight back against the environmental setbacks of continued overdevelopment. Within this process you will find yourself so immersed by the beauty of nature that you'll want to start native planting in your own backyard.

At only 24 years old, his passion and scope of the world is completely refreshing. • Episode #40 - Adam Mar - Designer & Surf Shop Owner
    Feb 25 2024

This week on Highly Educated Podcast we bring in apparel creator, surf shop owner, and brand curator Adam Mar. A local to Long Island, New York - Adam has been coming out to Montauk ever since he was a little kid. For those who don't know Montauk, it's one of the most visited summer destinations in the world from June to September.

However, living out in Montauk year-round for nearly the last decade and owning a surf shop is no easy feat - especially with the lack of affordable commercial property and hyper-inflated costs of rental housing to retain employees. Adam continues to support and connect with the community and that's how he makes it work. Between the free quarterly surf board swaps, always offering cheap surf wax, and participation in dozens of local events and causes throughout the year - he really is grabbing on to the local surf community. His shop also offers a very unique collection of boards that other shops don't carry so it's always worth the stop-in to check out their current inventory!

The truth is we need more guys like Adam, who continue to operate and inspire out of small town environments that lose headway every day to large scale developers and big box brands. He is an example of the "Mom & Pop" stores we've been so desperate to keep in the downtown Montauk area, in The Hamptons, and beyond. Listen now!

This podcast episode is brought to you by Adam Mar in Montauk, New York. Adam Mar offers a unique selection of quality surfboards and thoughtfully made apparel. Check out their website at www.adammar.co.

  • Episode #39 - Jack Marshall - Musician
    Jan 24 2024

The Highly Educated Podcast brings you another great episode with virtuoso musician, Jack Marshall. Jack has been playing music from a very early age. Being born and raised on the East End of Long Island, New York, Jack explains to us the path to success for musicians here and why it's difficult for some people to break through. Not surprisingly, he is also a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Being in dozens of bands and projects throughout the years, Jack can essentially play anything. If it has strings, reeds, or buttons he will find a way to produce beautiful sounds from it. His unique melody writing and knowledge of musical theory is impressive. Playing in groups around the Hamptons, we hope you can catch a show of his this year... and we hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did recording it! #HighlyEducatedPodcast
