    Jul 23 2024
Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the latest Mets roster moves and how things may shake out with the pitching staff heading into the second half with Kodai Senga nearing a return. We also discuss Pete Alonso’s struggles and what a contract for him may even look like at this point. Next, we talk about the crowded NL Wild Card race and the long list of injuries the Braves are dealing with, which leaves the whole race even more wide open. We also cover the image rehab the baseball media is doing for Marcell Ozuna and the formal charges brought against Wander Franco. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. • Home Run Applesauce in Conversation: J.D. Martinez
    Jul 19 2024
Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue in Conversation, a podcast from Amazin’ Avenue where we invite interesting people on the show to talk about themselves, the Mets, and more. J.D. Martinez has been an integral part of the 2024 Mets’ success. His consistent, steady bat has produced a lot of great moments this year, including his first ever walk-off! J.D. was made available to chat because of the ‘This Is Your Shot’ initiative run through Pfizer, which is here to raise awareness about getting vaccinated against pneumococcal pneumonia. J.D. is sharing his story as a professional baseball player with asthma, a condition he experienced playing in Little League, which led to frequent ER visits as a kid. As an adult, asthma puts him at over 5x greater risk for getting pneumococcal pneumonia compared to healthy adults in the same age range. Pneumococcal pneumonia is a potentially serious bacterial lung disease that can put you in the hospital and even be life threatening. J.D. knows how important it is to advocate for his own health and has partnered with Pfizer to raise awareness on the dangers of pneumococcal pneumonia and the importance of getting vaccinated against pneumococcal pneumonia. You can find out more about the This is Your Shot initiative at www.knowpneumonia.com. • Flushing is Burning: Forgiveness Not Guaranteed
    Jul 18 2024
Grace is back after an unintentional break and she gets into the last two weeks of Mets baseball. She talks about how good the Mets have been over the last month, and the week before the All-Star break. She talks about the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game, and then gets into the Mets road to the trade deadline. Next, she talks about Marcell Ozuna's attempt at gaining forgiveness. There's been a media offensive this week to talk about how great he actually is, and Grace isn't falling for it. She talks about the standards public figures should be held to (read: the same as everyone else if not more) and how we shouldn't be forced to forgive someone who committed crimes against someone. She also gets into this in regards to certain non-Hall of Famers. Finally, Grace has another throwback movie minute, this time to 1977 and her favorite Steven Spielberg movie. She gets into what makes it so great and it's foundation for his future films and the industry. • From Complex To Queens, Episode 282: 2024 Draft Reactions, Day 3
    Jul 17 2024
Welcome to From Complex to Queens, Home Run Applesauce’s podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. It’s part 3 of our draft coverage (Day 1 and Day 2 podcasts here), with discussion of picks in rounds 11 - 20. They Mets did some interesting things here, including taking a short, small college performer with good metrics (Lukas’ favorite demographic), snagging a very injured arm who had top-3 round buzz at one point, and perhaps unearthed a exciting prep pitching convert (kudos to Thomas for the detective work). After digging through those and other picks, we move to our general impressions of the draft as a whole. Steve is not a fan, but Thomas and Lukas see a lot of positives, including signs that the Mets have handed controls to the right people and are developing more robust processes. We close on discussion of some other drafts we liked, with shout outs for the Diamondbacks, Tigers, Brewers, and Reds as well as, of course the Guardians. • From Complex To Queens, Episode 281: 2024 Draft Reactions, Day 2
    Jul 16 2024
Welcome to From Complex to Queens, Home Run Applesauce’s podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. We were generally positive with the selections on Day 1, and that continued into Day 2 (live thread here). The Mets continued to take injured arms with real stuff upside and sprinkled in a prep shortstop with promising traits and one of the better senior signings in the entire draft class. More importantly, it really seems like Chris Gross has fully take control of the Mets drafting apparatus, pushing out any remnants of previous regimes in favor of his preferred drafting strategies. That is almost undoubtedly a good thing. We’ll be back tomorrow with our final reaction podcast for the 2024 draft.
