This Sunday, we follow Elijah's journey from the brook "Cherith" (Cut-off) to "Zarepath" (a place of smelting). What is clear is that often, after God prepares us, He brings us to a place of testing. Why? Because God is more interested in our character than our comfort.

After Elijah makes a bold declaration to the King that there will be a severe drought, which no doubt gained him some notoriety (which we see later), God sends him to live in obscurity by a brook for a few years - a pattern we see often in the Bible. What do you do when God calls you to live in isolation and obscurity? How do we deal with our frustrations in such times? And receive a fresh new perspective of why God is doing what He is doing?

We continue to unpack how God does extraordinary things through ordinary people, by looking at the life of Elijah and how he declared God's word and truth in the face of opposition. Also, we hear from Hennie and Zelda from the NCMI team, and good friends of our church, who share what God is doing in the nations and encourage us as Hope Rock Church in our mission.

The story of Elijah is full of drama, excitement, the work of the Holy Spirit, and a big showdown between God and the evil spiritual powers.

There is so much in the few chapters in 1 Kings that cover Elijah’s story that is applicable to today. Not only do we live in a similar spiritual climate, but we are also called to minister like Elijah did - with conviction and power, even in the face of our weaknesses.
