Brought to you by: https://windupmerchant.org/ In the comments on Youtube, and here on X, I see the phrase "Lewis is the reason for Mercedes' Success," "Lewis did more for Mercedes than they did for them" or some variation of that all of the time. It's a ridiculous statement and shows a massive lack of understanding of how F1 works. Mercedes is the reason for Lewis having the opportunity to win those titles. Of course, Lewis deserves credit for taking those opportunities by the balls and delivering them season after season. There's only two seasons out of the 7 where Mercedes won the drivers title from 2014-2020 that might have been lost without Hamilton driving. (Basically depending on who was there instead) If Hamilton wasn't there, even without a second driver, just assuming the same results: 2014 - Rosberg was second, would've won. 2015 - Rosberg was second, would've won 2016 - Rosberg did win. 2017 - Bottas was 3rd, 12 points off Vettel...Bottas is no where near a Vettel, so the fact he was that close says any better driver would've won. Especially given how Ferrari fell apart as always post-2008. 2018 - One of the season that Mercedes might have been lost as Bottas was 5th. Hamilton was clear by around 80 points. So still a lot to be said for the car and if you put an Alonso in there as an example, I'd say the result would be similar.. 2019 - Bottas was second, would've won. (If no Hamilton replacement) 2020 - Bottas was second, would've won. (If no Hamilton replacement) 2021 - Don't mention the war. This isn't taking into account that if Lewis didn't sign, after 2016 with Rosberg leaving, they wouldn't have had Bottas as the number 1, so for example Vettel or Alonso instead. Thus making it more obvious the result would've been the same. In F1 the car is more important. In a tight championship with two close cars, the driver makes the difference. So as much as Lewis was spectacular, and deserved his championships. You can't take that away from him. If he was driving for any other team from 2013-2021 he would still have 1 championship. If he went to Ferrari in 2013, he might have 2. The car is greater than the driver in F1. If you need more evidence, Perez was P2 in the championship last year, look at this year. It's a silly statement that Lewis was the reason for Mercedes success. Mercedes is the reason for Lewis having the opportunity to win those titles. He deserves credit for taking those opportunities, but let's not pretend that Mercedes wasn't winning them without him. #BlatantlyBiasedRacing #BritishGP #LewisHamilton #FerrariFumbles #F1 #Formula1 #RacingPodcast #Motorsport #HamiltonWin #FerrariStruggles
