Wow! Mind blown!
What a fantastic addictive story!!! Love it!! Must listen!! Wish I still lived in South Carolina so I could make a trip to the distillery. Hell, maybe it’s our next family vacation?

The best I've ever listen to
I really like this. i grew up between Gwinnett County Georgia and Monroe Georgia..i Remember Billy sunday..my dad and his brothers use to haul moonshine as well..i was a kid growing up in the 70s..I just told my friend i wonder if this is the same man that my dad knew..when i seen the photos i knew it was him..i know after 73 or 74 we didnt see him again..i was young and didn't pay much attention to what grown folks was doing..back then kids did what they were told to do..i didn't know what my dad and uncles did till about 2011 ..this podcast is awesome and i suggest it to anybody and everybody..especially if you love true crime..it has murder.. bank robbing.. and moonshine runners..even some bombing and contract killings..its one of the best I've listen to..hope you all enjoy..

Masterful Production
This is an outstanding, emotional spellbinding story that is not to be missed. The author (and splendid narrator as well) weaves together recorded testimony and interviews, written accounts, and even soothing original music to tell of the exploits of a murderous gang known as The Dixie Mafia. Being somewhat a student of history, I was surprised that I had never heard of this gang and the top man, Billy Sunday Birt. I was even more shocked that I shed a tear over a mass murderer, but i would challenge anyone to not get emotional over this story. One note, if you are like me and unused to deciphering deep Southern drawl, do not give up on the podcast if you have difficulty understanding some of what is said at the beginning of the story - it gets better and easier to listen to. I cannot recommend this podcast more; it is truly a masterful work.

Very emotional......
This story was very emotional.....Stoney's unconditional love for his father was something we don't see too often. No matter what his father did he did not justify his crimes nor did he judge him. Billy, in my opinion, at the end realized that no matter how much money you have, nothing is more important than time with family. I believe that was his big regret, the future he gave up for becoming greedy. During the entire story, I never felt anger or dislike for Billy. I viewed him as a loving father and dedicated and honest "criminal". That probably sounds strange. One of the GBIs made a description of Billy and Billy Davis, that Davis was the "brains" and Billy Birt was the "muscle", I disagree. Too much credit given to Davis. GREAT PODCAST, THANK YOU!!

WoW! My favorite podcast so far this year
This story is awe inspiring. Left me amazed at how powerful redemption is if only we choose to accept it. None of us have gone too far that we can’t choose to be different if not for ourselves then for others. Thanks for sharing Stoney it impacted me deeply.
