Sarah, a teenage girl with sleep issues, joins a sleep study that soon brings her face-to-face with the horrors lurking in the human subconscious.

Will the Incantation hosts be able to decipher the meanings hidden behind this trippy visual fest? Or will this be a case of a whole lot of flash but just a little substance?

  • Scanners // Film Review [Sci-Fi]
    Jun 13 2021

Episode #14: Scanners Incantation takes a trip back in time to 1981 for the start of our sci-fi horror series. 'Scanners' was the film that placed David Cronenberg and his trademark body horror in the mainstream for the first time. A secretive company named ConSec is looking for "scanners", people with telepathic and telekinetic powers, while a powerful telepath named Revok attempts to undermine their efforts. Do the special effects and acting in 'Scanners' stand the test of time? Will the hosts be thrilled or revolted by Cronenberg's body horror? And is there really such a thing as too much body horror? Incantation is available on Spotify, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. (Music by Chan Walrus: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuJOYd-sPGTKGkZJUqgdB4A)

  • Pontypool // Film Review [Psychological]
    Mar 20 2021
Episode #12: Pontypool Mrs. French's cat is missing. The signs are posted all over town. "Have you seen Honey?" We've all seen the posters, but nobody has seen Honey the cat. Nobody. Until last Thursday morning, when Miss Colette Piscine swerved her car to miss Honey the cat as she drove across a bridge. Well this bridge, now slightly damaged, is a bit of a local treasure and even has its own fancy name; Pont de Flaque. Now Collette, that sounds like Culotte. That's Panty in French. And Piscine means Pool. Panty pool. Flaque also means pool in French, so Colete Piscine, in French Panty Pool, drives over the Pont de Flaque, the Pont de Pool if you will, to avoid hitting Mrs. French's cat that has been missing in Pontypool. Pontypool. Pontypool. Panty pool. Pont de Flaque. What does it mean? Well, Norman Mailer, he had an interesting theory that he used to explain the strange coincidences in the aftermath of the JFK assasination. In the wake of huge events, after them and before them, physical details they spasm for a moment; they sort of unlock and when they come back into focus they suddenly coincide in a weird way. Street names and birthdates and middle names, all kind of superfluous things appear related to each other. It's a ripple effect. So, what does it mean? Well... it means something's going to happen. Something big. But then, something's always about to happen.

  • Se7en // Film Review [Psychological]
    Mar 6 2021
Episode #11: Se7en When it came out in 1995, David Fincher's 'Se7en' noir-ish, ultra-stylish take on the serial killer genre horrified and delighted audiences in equal measure. It took home the MTV Movie Award, landed Brad Pitt the prestigious Most Desirable Male Award, and ensured we would never look at same day delivery the same way again. 26 years later, will the Incantation hosts still find that 'Se7en' packs a punch or will it seem like a relic of '90s cinema?(Spoiler alert: It won't). Will that ending still pack a punch? (It certainly does) And how will Lynn react when she finally finds out what's in the box? Dec 10 2020
Episode #8: Host 6 best friends getting into an online seance that goes gorily wrong is just one way to describe 'Host'. Here's a few others: the first great quarantine horror film, the definitive video-call thriller, a terrifying examination of the nonsense we get up to in isolation. So is this 'The Blair Witch Project' for the Zoom generation? More importantly, are any of the Incantation hosts going to dare give this 57-minute film a higher score than the monster that is 'Midsommar'?
