James Ruppert: The Easter Sunday Family Massacre

  • Summary

  • The "Easter Sunday Family Massacre" occurred on March 30, 1975, in Hamilton, Ohio, when James Urban Ruppert fatally shot 11 members of his family during a gathering. Among the victims were his mother, brother, sister-in-law, and eight nieces and nephews. Many who knew James were shocked by the senseless violence, unable to fathom that he could murder 11 family members in cold blood. However, there were significant tensions between James, his brother, and his mother. Unlike some cases where the reasons behind a person's actions remain unclear, James' life seemed marked by a profound sense of being unwanted, disliked, and deeply unhappy from an early age.
