  • Elvis v. Baba Yaga: Dawn of Appropriation
    Jul 20 2022

We're back! For real this time! Apologies to all of our fan for the double-extended haitus, but it turns out doing this around day jobs and kids and shit can be tricky. Also we're super lazy. Who knew? Mom, put your hand down.

Today we're talking Baz Luhrmann's Elvis, the surprising things it has in common with Black Swan, and exactly how much of your body and soul is worth destroying for true greatness.

  • Freaked About the 90's Coming Back
    Mar 3 2022

We're back! Sorry for the haitus, but we were attempting a new recording configuration and it...is just didn't work out. On the recommendation of Twitter's @slimyswampghost - horror artist and Sirenhead creator - we tracked down the 1993 cult classic Freaked, starring and co-directed by Alex Winter. It's...something else. That ends up leading us to discuss the horrifying return of certain 90's fashions and trends. If Beanie Babies have a resurgence, I'm moving into the woods.

    Jan 28 2022

UnHip Book Club time! This week we do a deep-dive on the dark, whimsical, and oddly touching fantasy book The Hike by Drew Magary. We get into spoilers at around the halfway mark. We strongly suggest you read the book before listening to the whole episode, but FEAR NOT, it's rather short and we highly recommend it.

  • Lets' Face It: We'd All Be Cypher (feat. Melissa)
    Jan 19 2022

We are back, ladies and gentlemen, and we brought a friend this time! Please welcome our delightful friend Melissa to the podcast as we discuss all things Matrix. Or most things Matrix anyway. We're talking about the Matrix. Sidenote: The audio here isn't GREAT, but pairs well with the video (LINK BELOW HINT HINT). Shortly after recording this we did invest in new recording hardware, so stick around and everything will be coming up Unhip!

Not really bothering with timestamps this week. For one thing, we're late to post this, and for another: it's all Matrix talk, baby!

    Thanks for listening!

  • Hot Carnies & Vats of Love (now with video!)
    Jan 3 2022

Hello Unhipsters! No? Not a good fan name? Well it's too early for that anyway. This week we delve into yet another movie review and personal anecdotes, with all of the digressions you've come to expect and hopefully tolerate along the way. We also recorded this episode on video! Apologies for the audio listeners when we allude to things happening in the room; you'll just have to watch the video to find out. In all fairness, it does heavily feature our cat Charlie and puppy Iris, so that can't hurt!

  • Spider-Man: New West Hampshire and Nightmare Ohio Valley
    Dec 23 2021

Happy Holidays, everyone! On the second ep of this week's double-drop, we discuss the latest entry in the Spidey franchise. HEAVY SPOILERS out of the gate on this one. Not recommended if you haven't seen it yet. Box office numbers would indicate that won't be an issue. We also discuss why the "just hop in the car and drive" style of getaway is not advised during non-tourist season.

Apologies for the audio on this one. It's a little more quiet and echo-y. Looking to upgrade our audio equipment here shortly.

    Thanks for listening! Happy Holidays!

Much like the Ghostbusters, we're back! I guess we needed a haitus after recording 5. Whole. Podcast. Episodes. Nevertheless, we have a double dose this week, starting with this episode, wherein we review the latest instalment of the Ghostbuster franchise. I swear I am not the hater I may come across in this episode. Listen to the next one for proof of that!

    Nov 18 2021

Welcome back, everybody! Today we get some reactions from Yana about the exciting* new logos that Disney+ just unveiled. Plus we review Antlers, the latest horror film in theaters. "But guys," you say, "Halloween season is over!" To that we reply, "Shut up, nerd, spooky season lives in our hearts year-round! Thanks for listening, though, tell your friends!"

Sorry this week's ep is late. Turns out my extremely amateurish audio editing skills aren't condusive to a strict release schedule. Who knew? In any case, thanks for listening! Below are our social links and below that is the book Yana recommended this week.
