  • 178. Detachment, Silence, Prayer, and the Heart (In the School of the Holy Spirit Ep 3)
    Jul 30 2024

"Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The Mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace." Romans 8:5-6

This week, Carrie joins me again to chat about “In the School of the Holy Spirit.” We continue our conversation about how we can live with a posture that is open and ready to hear and receive the inspirations of the Holy Spirit. Through greater detachment, intentional silence, perseverance in prayer and a holy curiosity towards the movements of our own hearts, we may be better able to hear the whispers from the Lord.

"And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" -Luke 11:9

This week, Carrie and I continue our summer book series discussion. We dive into the second section of Father Jacque Philippe's book "In the School of the Holy Spirit", which looks at the various ways in which we can foster inspirations. Though we cannot "work" to receive inspirations through our own efforts, Father Jacque Philippe helps us understand how we can better open ourselves up to receive the gift and grace of God in the Holy Spirit through practical and insightful tips.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit, apart from me you can do nothing" John 15:5

This week speaker, author, and my dear friend, Carrie Daunt, and I dive into the first section in Father Jacque Philippe's book "In the School of the Holy Spirit" for our summer book series. It was a treasure for my own heart to reflect upon the unique workings of the Holy Spirit in each of our lives.

All too often we believe the lie that the pathway to holiness is to plan it all out, muscle up the effort, and white knuckle our way towards virtue and sainthood. However, Father Jacque Philippe makes it abundantly clear that it is in fact much simpler than that. He discusses that holiness is produced by the openness and obedience to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

  • 175. Carrying Another's Cross - Be Simon!
    Jul 9 2024

Want to connect? Send me a quick message here!

“And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus.” Luke 23:26.

This week I explore the reality of watching another struggle under the weight of their cross. Perhaps, we are called to be "Simon" in the lives of those we love. Could Simon of Cyrene have known the pivotal part that he would play in the story of salvation?

"On his great work in each one of us...we each individually are a part of his mighty works!!!" -"Psalm 145:3&4.

This week I am joined by psychologist, speaker, and author of "The Mindful Catholic", Dr. Greg Bottaro to discuss living in the presence of God. Dr. Greg Bottaro is a Catholic psychologist, founder of the CatholicPsych Institute and creator of the CatholicPsych Model of Applied Personalism (CPMAP).

Dr. Greg provides some powerful insights into the importance of mindfulness and how practicing it can create a holy awareness of the present moment with a Christocentric mindset.

  • 173. When Expectations Sabotage Ideals

" For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope" Jeremiah 29:11

This week I discuss the risk that comes with heavy expectations. When our children don't live up to our expectations or we ourselves are not yet the people we desire to be, we become vulnerable to the dangerous spirit of despair. We may even throw in the towel, wave our little white flags, and give up on the God-given ideals we once had our hearts set on.

  • 172. What Do You Cling To?
    Jun 11 2024

Want to connect? Send me a quick message here!

"You can't worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you'll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can't worship God and Money both.” Matthew 6:24.

This week I explore the reality that we often cling to many things in this world, other than the only one worthy of clinging to, Jesus himself. What things have become idols in our lives that separate our hearts from fully attaching to the Lord?

"Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice." —Proverbs 27:9.

All too often, our fears and shame keep us from living authentically. Instead, we exhaustingly fight to put on an Instagram-worthy performance for the world to see. This week my dear friend Johnna Sullivan joins me to discuss friendships and the beauty of vulnerability and authenticity. We discuss the need to feel free and safe to be the beautiful messes that we are.
