The Boston Bruins were outclassed in Game 2, losing 6-1 to the Florida Panthers.

Before the National Hockey League Playoff series shifts to Boston for Game 3, Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren is breaking down the good, bad, and ugly from the Game 2 loss.

The Boston Bruins statistically have the best chance of advancing to Round 2 of the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup Playoffs after a huge road win to begin their series with the Florida Panthers.

The vibes around the Bruins are off the charts at the moment, and they're embracing the underdog status they've been given in this series. Jeremy Swayman is unbeatable, depth guys are stepping up, they're healthy, and they've yet to get a lot of production out of David Pastrnak.

BUT the Panthers are a very good team and won the Atlantic Division for a reason, and it's entirely likely they'll come back, especially knowing they're not out of it until it's really over.

The Boston Bruins could not have asked for a better start to their second round playoff series against the Florida Panthers.

Just 2 days after an emotional Game 7 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Boston Bruins were out there dropping 5 goals on Sergei Bobrovsky, and from some unlikely names like Justin Brazeau, Mason Lohrei, Morgan Geekie, and Brandon Carlo (whose wife gave birth to their son Crew THAT MORNING).

Depth scoring, Carlo's dad energy, and, of course, Jeremy Swayman's stellar play in net gave the Bruins a 1-0 series lead, restoring faith in the fanbase. Maybe this team can do it?

David Pastrnak stepped up, alright. After being called out by Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery after Game 6, Pastrnak broke through the Toronto Maple Leafs defense in Game 7 to score to overtime series winner off a beautiful set play executed by Hampus Lindholm.

Lindholm played one of his best games as a Bruin, adding an earlier game-tying goal and leading the team in shots, while Jeremy Swayman was near perfect once again, finishing with a .950 save percentage.

With that, the Bruins dispose of the Leafs and are off to the second round where they'll face the Florida Panthers.

Whatever happens moving forward, this has been a positive step forward for a group in transition.

For the second year in a row, the Boston Bruins have blown a 3-1 series lead. No team in NHL, NBA, or MLB history has done this in consecutive years.

Head coach Jim Montgomery directly called out David Pastrnak after a Game 6 loss, saying "Your best players need to be your best players this time of year." While he's not wrong, the Bruins also came out incredibly flat and have been outshot 23-3 in the first period over the past two games. That motivation needs to come from the top, putting the coach and captain Brad Marchand in the spotlight.

The team as a whole needs to step up to avoid a disastrous conclusion to the season - if they don't, the consequences could be job ending or core shaking.

The Boston Bruins simply can't afford to blow another 3-1 series lead.

Expectations weren't sky high coming into this season, but the Bruins have exceeded them all along the way, building up a 3-1 series lead over a Toronto Maple Leafs club with Stanley Cup aspirations. But even in this transition season, the Bruins can't allow what happened last year in their series with the Florida Panthers to happen again.

No, the franchise won't crumble, but it'll raise all sorts of unnecessary noise and questions about the coach and the core, and could lead to over reactionary offseason decisions.

Finish the Maple Leafs by reverting back to what worked in Games 3 and 4 without worrying about whether Auston Matthews is playing or if Joseph Woll is in net.. Boston's best players simply need to be better than they were in Game 5 - is it finally time for David Pastrnak's big performance?
