Despite a promising third inning where the Detroit Tigers managed to tie the game thanks to RBIs from Matt Vierling and Mark Canha, they couldn't sustain the momentum against the Los Angeles Angels' pitching. Detroit Tigers' starter Kenta Maeda put in a solid five innings, allowing two runs and striking out four, but it wasn't enough to contain the Angels. The game reached a climax in the bottom of the eighth inning, where Logan O’Hoppe's three-run homer off Tigers' Shelby Miller sealed the deal.
