  • To have and to hold...URINE: Interview with Ben Abebe, PA-C (Urology)
    Nov 11 2023

The body's plumbing, or urinary system works well much of the time on most people but when it doesn't it can disrupt daily life significantly and possibly cause illness. In this episode, we were fortunate to get to sit down with a Physician Associate in Urology, Ben Abebe, PA-C to discuss when things are working well in the urinary system, as well as when they are not functioning as they should. Some more common examples of dysfunction are leaking of urine, difficulty controlling the pressure, timing and amount of urine, discomfort, frequency, urgency and feelings of distress. Through this introduction into the challenges some face with urination, I am hopeful that healthy habits will be sought, conservations will be encouraged, questions will be asked and treatment will be sought after when needed.

    Jul 30 2023

I delivered a BABY, now what? In this episode we discuss challenges, developments and plans to improve post-partum care in a casual format in hopes of sparking conversations. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses have assessed and are developing national initiatives to improve care in the postpartum period. The postpartum period, also called the 4th Trimester, begins at the time the mother gives birth to 12 weeks after delivery, and should be considered up to one year in all mothers, but especially in high risk patients. Overall, the initiatives goals are to optimize the health and well-being of women and infants. Through the education of providers, patients and the community there is hope. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to interview such a strong advocate in this arena, Gentry Hunt MSN, RNC-MNN. Gentry received her BSN from the University of North Georgia and began working as a nurse in 2003. She later received her Masters in Nursing, with a specialty in maternal and newborn care, from Purdue University. She is currently the Nursing Director of Pediatric/Women's Health, Mother Baby and Lactation services at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and has served in this position for 10 years, has worked in postpartum care for 17 years and has been a nurse for 20 years. • Brachioplasty for "BAT WINGS"
    Jan 26 2023

Brachioplasty for "Bat Wings" is hosted by Katie Allen, PA-C. Whether it is genetic misfortune or massive weight loss, if your upper arms have loose skin that wobbles, jiggles, wiggles or waves then you've probably heard of the term "Bat Wings." Unfortunately, exercise to the arms can improve muscle tone but it does not decrease the loose skin so individuals seek out ways to treat or disguise this tissue. If enough tissue is involved, it can be difficult to find clothing that fits over the arm and is still the appropriate size for the rest of the upper body. Attempting to cover the arms in the heat of the summer months is quite uncomfortable. There is a great deal of frustration for individuals.
What are the options for loose skin to the upper arm? This episode discusses excess adipose tissue as well as skin laxity to the upper arm and what can me done about it.
For a consult with the board certified plastic surgeon mentioned in this episode, Dr. Glen Walton, call 770-534-1856.
