  • Alberta day of Caring, AI vs Job Hunting, and High Fast Food Prices
    Jul 31 2024
The town of Hinton stepped up last week to support the people of Jasper displaced by the devastating wildfires. We had the chance to catch up with the Mayor of Hinton, Nicholas Nissen, about how his community has come together to support their neighbours down the highway and the continuing road ahead to recovery. Next, just when you thought searching for a new job was hard enough, now your application has to make it past artificial intelligence just to get a shot at an interview. We discuss how AI is changing the ‘landscape’ when it comes to job-hunting with Michelle Slater, Senior Director at “Indeed.ca”. Finally. “Happy Meals” are now leaving customers with a “Frown”. For the first time in 4 years, McDonald’s has seen a decline in sales and according to analysts, it all has to do with higher prices on the menu. We “dig in” to the topic with Sylvain Charlebois, Professor and Director of the Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University.

  • Mornings With Sue & Andy July 30, 2024
    Jul 31 2024
What can we learn from the wildfire devastation in Jasper in order to better prepare for future wildfires that could threaten Alberta communities? We invited Jack Lindsay, Professor in Disaster and Emergency Studies at Brandon University, to join us to discuss Canada’s emergency preparedness strategy. Continuing the conversation about wildfires, we talked with Cliff White, who is the former Environmental Science Manager for Banff National Park. He says “Banff is primed to burn” and is at serious risk from wildfire. And finally, small business week is coming up – but ahead of that, NOW is the time to nominate a small business in your community, to help get them the recognition they deserve! To talk about the importance of our small business community and the upcoming awards ceremony, we checked in with Melanie McDonald, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Partnerships and Engagement at the Calgary Chamber.

  • Jasper Wildfire Update, Expanding the Role of Pharmacists, and Food Poisoning vs. a stomach bug
    Jul 29 2024
The town of Jasper has been devastated by an out-of-control wildfire and crews worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to save the town. Melissa Story, Provincial Information Officer for Alberta Wildfire joined the show with the latest wildfire information and developments from Jasper and right across the province of Alberta. What role can pharmacists play in filling the gaps of Canada’s healthcare system? To dig into a study done through the University of Calgary, we invited Dr. Roopinder Sandhu, Director of the Women’s Cardiovascular Health Initiative at the Cumming School of Medicine to chat with us about the ways pharmacists might be able to help with stroke patients. Food Poisoning versus the dreaded ‘stomach bug’…how can you tell the difference between the two and when should we see the Doctor when it comes to ‘tummy trouble’? We get the thoughts of our on call family physician, Dr. Ted Jablonski.
