  • Back to nostr - Music Free Static (066)
    Aug 28 2024

I have a loath/hate relationship with creator/social media. Sites like

X, Facebook, and Bluesky are so toxic, I can barely stand to use

them. Still, such platforms can be a good way to connect with others

and find people with similar interests. Or they would be if they

weren't such a mess. Instead, I'm spending more time on nostr which is

    more about connection than contention.

  • I'm Obsessed - Music Free Static (065)
    Aug 21 2024

I get obsessed by things. Usually, the obsession passes relatively

quickly but it doesn't matter. While I'm in the throws of my

obsession, I dive into so much research. Currently, it's swords and DJ

gear. I can't afford a new sword right now and I doubt I'm ever going

to DJ anything. That doesn't stop me from obsession about them.

  • We Don't Need R-Rated Star Wars - Music Free Static (064)
    Aug 14 2024

With the success of Deadpool, there's been talk of more R-rated movies

in the MCU and Star Wars. My question is "Why?" What does the

inclusion of excessive profanity, nudity, and gore bring to the story?

Star Wars as shown over and over again that mature stories can be told

in the universe without any of the things that would make it

R-rated. Does any of that R-rated nonsense improve the story?

  • What Do You Like in Stories? - Music Free Static (063)
    Aug 7 2024

I love movies and books. I wanted to talk about what I like in

stories. Sometimes it's character. Sometimes it's the story. Whatever

it is, it's fun to talk about.

  • Why Do I Like This? - Music Free Static (062)
    Jul 31 2024

Like everyone, I have genres if things that I like. I'm into action

comedies & romcoms, EDM & dance pop, and sci-fi & fantasy. But every

so often something shows up on my radar that absolutely love and I

    cannot say why.

In this podcast, I dive into a couple of those things that I love that

falls outside my wheelhouse. I can't even explain why I like the album

"Tails" by Lisa Loeb or Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom". I like them

    and that's okay.

    Jul 24 2024

The Acolyte finished up its first season and I want to talk about it!

Some of it was really interesting. Some of it didn't work for me.

    Overall, I enjoyed the show.

  • Forbidden Planet - Music Free Static (060)
    Jul 17 2024

In today's Really Late Movie Review, I'm going back to the 1956

classic Forbidden Planet. Forbidden Planet is one of the first real

science fiction movie that I'd seen. From the mystery, the sci-fi

exploration of humanity, and Robby the Robot, I love it.

It stars Leslie Nielsen, Walter Pidgeon, and Anne Francis. Nielsen and

Pidgeon, especially, are excellent. Does it look campy? Yes. Is the

    story amazing? Absolutely.

  • Priorities - Music Free Static (059)
    Jul 10 2024

Have you ever said something like "I don't have time for that!"? It's

often a lie. You have the same amount of time as everyone else. You

simply choose to allocate it differently. In today's podcast, I talk

about the need to set priorities for your time.
