  • Jacob Wetterling was an 11-year-old boy from St. Joseph, Minnesota, who was abducted on October 22, 1989. His case remained unsolved for nearly 27 years, becoming one of the most prominent child abduction cases in the United States and leading to significant changes in laws and policies related to child safety. In 2016, Danny Heinrich, a person of interest in the case, confessed to abducting, sexually assaulting, and murdering Jacob. Heinrich led authorities to Jacob's remains, which were found in a rural area near Paynesville, Minnesota.
