前回（ぜんかい）に引（ひ）き続（つづ）き、今回（こんかい）もマレーシアでの島生活（しませいかつ）についてお話（はな）しています。
前回（ぜんかい）はダイビングの仕事（しごと）を中心（ちゅうしん）に話（はな）しましたが、今回はとらくんが実際（じっさい）に滞在（たいざい）していた島（しま）、**Tioman（ティオマン）島（とう）**についてお話ししています。

From high school to working life, Tora spent five and a half months living in Malaysia.
In this season, we talk about his experience — and I also share how it felt watching everything as a mom, both from Japan and during my visits to Malaysia.

One of my students, who will soon have a job interview with a Japanese company, asked me if I had any advice. Previously, Tora and I worked on a textbook exercise for Australian high school students, where casual Japanese is turned into polite language. This time, I tried doing the same drill with Ojisan.
Having worked at a Japanese company for many years, Ojisan is basically a business conversation expert.
He taught us some real-world business keigo (polite expressions) that are actually used in the workplace!

This episode is the final one before Tora takes a break from the podcast. Until he settles into his new life in Malaysia, his father—nicknamed “Ojisan”—will be stepping in as a substitute.

日本語（にほんご）は「です・ます」の丁寧形（ていねいけい）以外（いがい）にも会話（かいわ）の普通形（ふつうけい）、ビジネスで使（つか）う尊敬語（そんけいご）など大体（だいたい）大（おお）きく分（わ）けて３つのスタイルがあり、勉強（べんきょう）しているみなさんにとっては本当（ほんとう）に難（むずか）しい言語（げんご）だと思（おも）います。
今回（こんかい）、またオーストラリアの高校生（こうこうせい）の使（つか）っている教科書（きょうかしょ）から、普通形（ふつうけい）から敬語（けいご）、敬語（けいご）から普通形（ふつうけい）にする、というドリルがあったので、ネイティブがやるとどうなるかやってみました。
特（とく）に普通形（ふつうけい）に関（かん）しては、仲（なか）のいい友達（ともだち）と話（はな）すトーンでやると方言（ほうげん）が出（で）てしまい、メチャクチャになってしまいましたが、愛知（あいち）の人（ひと）はこんな話（はな）し方（かた）をするんだ、と参考（さんこう）にしてください。笑

Japanese has roughly three major styles: the polite desu/masu form, the casual form used in conversation, and honorific language used in business. For learners, it's truly a difficult language to master.
This time, I found a drill in a Japanese textbook used by Australian high school students, where you convert from the casual form to the honorific form and vice versa. We tried doing it ourselves as native speakers to see how it would turn out.
Especially with the casual form, when we used a tone like we’re talking with close friends, our regional dialect came out and things got pretty messy—but please take it as a fun reference of how people from Aichi might speak! 😄

オーストラリアの生徒（せいと）さんが選挙（せんきょ）のお手伝（てつだ）いをしているということから、オーストラリアの選挙（せんきょ）のやり方（かた）を知（し）りました。日本（にほん）とは投票（とうひょう）の仕方（しかた）が全然（ぜんぜん）違（ちが）うことに驚（おどろ）きました。そこで、今回（こんかい）は世界（せかい）の選挙事情（せんきょじじょう）について調（しら）べてみました。投票（とうひょう）の仕方（しかた）はその国（くに）それぞれに違（ちが）いがあり、とても興味深（きょうみぶか）いです。みなさんの国（くに）ではどんな風（ふう）に投票（とうひょう）しますか？日本（にほん）と同（おな）じですか？それとも全（まった）く違（ちが）いますか？よかったらコメント欄（らん）で教（おし）えてください。

I learned about how elections work in Australia after one of my students there helped out during an election. I was surprised at how different the voting system is compared to Japan. So, I decided to research how elections are held around the world. Each country has its own unique way of voting, and it’s really fascinating. How do people vote in your country?
