  • Episode 5: Frank Hayes and the "Sweet Kiss" of Death
    Apr 30 2023

Frank Hayes was a stable-hand and trainer in the 1920s who had to opportunity to race as a jockey on June 4th, 1923. Unfortunately, even though he won the race against all odds, this would be the first and last time he ever raced.

Correction: He was not "asked" to be a jockey at the last minute. Frank wanted to be a jockey and was told he had to lose weight before he would be able to race. He was able to reach the goal weight so that he could finally be a jockey.
