Nothing much happens: bedtime stories to help you sleep

By: iHeartPodcasts
  • Summary

  • Having trouble sleeping? Join Yoga and meditation teacher Kathryn Nicolai for bedtime stories where nothing much happens to help you relax and sleep peacefully. The stories are a soft landing spot for your mind. Rather than letting your brain race through the same thoughts you’ve been chasing all day, we are taking a detour to a calm and comfy place. We tell the story twice and go a bit slower the second time.

  • Cinder and the Springtime
    May 6 2024

Our story tonight is called Cinder and the Springtime, and it’s a story about a gift given to returning neighbors on a bright warm day. It’s also about moss and pine needles, a bicycle basket made special for a friend, practical magic and gratitude for the ones we share our space with.

We give to a different charity each week, and this week, we are giving to Hot Mess Express. A women-led nonprofit with chapters across the United States. They serve the women in their community with no judgment through cleaning, organizing, and offering a fresh start.

  • Three Good Things (Encore)
    May 2 2024

Our story tonight is called "Three Good Things," and it’s about reminding yourself of some of the simple, happy moments that happen during the day. Sometimes, good stuff slips through our brains without leaving much of a trace, while scary, upsetting stuff gets stuck in there. So it helps to notice and highlight sweetness when it shows up, even if that just amounts to us saying to ourselves, “Oh that’s nice.”

So get cozy and ready to sleep.

  • First Mow of the Year
    Apr 29 2024

Our story tonight is called First Mow of the Year, and it’s a story about a day of yard work as spring arrives in full. It’s also about pinecones and ladybugs, a glass of water enjoyed on the porch step, the sun on the back of your neck, and the shared experiences that connect us.

We give to a different charity each week, and this week, we are giving to the Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition. Working for a world where all of us, no matter our race, place, or politics, have access to affordable, renewable, and community-controlled energy.

Great For My Insomnia

I’m so glad I found Nothing Much Happens! It truly has helped me with my sleeping. Even when my insomnia is bad I know I can turn to these stories any time day or night and I’ll fall asleep. Usually before the first read through is done I’m asleep. The stories are simple, but filled with so much detail you can picture yourself in the story. Focusing on the detail is what helps you train your brain to relax and fall asleep. If you don’t like the adds or intro, use the fast forward button to get to the story. She will do 1-3 ads and the same intro each episode. I personally like the intro, it’s part of my process to relax and let my brain know it’s time for bed. Thank you Kathryn Nicolai and Bob W. for your work on Nothing Much Happens!

It works! Truly AMAZING.

I have only been listening for a few days, and I’m already completely blown away by how well this works. I normally have a terrible time falling asleep, and will usually wake up multiple times a night. However with this podcast, I’ve always fallen asleep before the story ends just as you say I will. Even when I’m listening and thinking, “this is not working, I’m not going to fall asleep tonight,” my next experience is waking up on my own and realizing it’s morning. It’s literally a miracle. We’re told this works better the more you listen, and honestly, I couldn’t begin to tell you the gist of the story I listened to last night. Amazing! Best story I never heard. ;-) Please never stop making these. You’re bringing so much goodness to the world by creating happy, well rested people. Thank you so much!!!

Like Medicine without the after effects!

So I hope this review makes it to the top of the list, as the first two were abhorrent based on bias! This podcast is so soothing and yes the stories are sweet and simple for a reason….sleep. For those who expect a piece of literature go read a good book, and stay awake! One of my favorites that stood out was ‘Front door back door.’ it has a really nice message. The whole series is perfect for what it’s meant to be. A lovely soothing voice telling a simple story to help you fall asleep. It works… and I’m so glad I found Katherine and Bob to help me with insomnia. Not surprising that she is practiced in meditation.
Thank you so much!

Good Sleepy Time

Lovely, stress free stories to drift off to sleep with. Narrator has a soft, gentle voice. Helps to wash away the stress of the day and quiet the mind. The stories are slow and uneventful, but there is enough detail and imagery to engage the imagination and hold my attention. Yes, this method really does help in getting to sleep.
