  • In 1756 Olaudah Equiano was kidnapped from his own yard along with his sister. He was bound and gagged and forced to hike miles and miles until they reached the slave ships waiting in port on the Atlantic Ocean for them. From there he was taken to Virginia where he was sold to a British Naval officer. Eventually, he learned to read and write and speak English. AFter he bought his own freedom he wrote his autobiography.
