  • Resumen

  • Are you fed up with reading about American scientists? Do you want to punch your face with your own fist when you see or hear people droning on about observational studies, experiments and you still do not understand what’s the point? If the answer is yes, this podcast is for you. My name is Karolina, but you can call me K. I’m a psychologist, sexual health specialist, scientist and HIV adviser. I deeply believe that science could be easy and understandable, and you don’t have to complete 4 PhDs to talk about science and make use of it. My mission is to break the academia door and make social science more comprehensible to people who are not familiar with scientific world and scientific discourse.

  • Transgender athletes and testosterone mess
    Aug 10 2021
PRS #2: Transgender athletes and testosterone mess We’re right after the end of the weirdest Olympic Games, but also the most rainbow-colored Olympic Games in our history. We also had an opportunity to (eventually!) see Laurel Hubbard, the first transgender person to compete in the sex category according to her gender identity, and even though without any medal, she left Tokyo with, impossible to count, signs of support from all around the world. Therefore, I believe it is a good moment to recall a history of testosterone in sport and how it became the underlying issue for transgender athletes. If you want to read more about it, here are the papers to which I refer in this episode: Foster et al.(2014): https://www.researchgate.net/publication/270567341_Modelling_Effects_of_Drug_Testing_Procedures_on_Performance_Trends_in_the_Shot_Put.
