Paper Ghosts: The Ozarks

By: iHeartPodcasts
  • Summary

  • It’s the dead of summer, 1989, in the heart of the Ozarks. An 18-year-old woman goes missing from Bella Vista, Arkansas. As the search moves forward, several suspects emerge. Then… a body is found not far from the Missouri border, and a homicide investigation begins. Soon, a second body is discovered nearby. What was a mystery transforms into the hunt for a possible serial killer stalking young women throughout the Ozarks. M. William Phelps digs in nearly 35 years later and begins to understand that things aren’t always what they seem.

Janice Pockett was only 7 years old when she went missing during the summer of 1973. She had been given permission for the first time to ride her bike alone, so she made her way down the dirt road near her family’s home. As she turned the corner, it was the last time anybody ever saw her again. For decades, the case has remained unsolved. It was not until recently, when a new piece of information turns the case upside down and shifts the investigation in an entirely new direction.

Excellent

The way the story gets told is very interesting and keeps you hungry for more information. I can tell in this man's voice that he actually cares about the story he is covering and the victims and their families.

Wow

So this is the first true crime story I really started paying attention to thanks to one of my employees who absolutely loves these stories. Within 20 minutes of the first episode I was sucked in and absolutely had to keep listening to it.

Right now, we both kinda figure it was probably a couple of people doing the crimes, just based on the evidence presented in the narrative. However, cannot wait for season 2. The unfortunate thing is ... if it is who we're thinking it is... it's horrible for the families because there will be no justice for them. I just hope the bodies are recovered so the families are able to find some peace at last.

LOVE IT

Absolutely love this Podcast. I've loved Mr. Phelps books, but this is my favorite. You can tell how much he cares about this story, his respect for others is very apparent in this story... PLEASE do another Podcast.

Way too many ads!

2.5 min of ads every ten min on average is ridiculous and excessive (especially when the same ad is played 3 or 4 times in the same episode!). Had to stop listening because of this, even though the story was good.

good podcast but way too many commercials

this is a good podcast, interesting, well structured. however, there are waaay too many commercials and too often. all other similar podcasts I've listened to have had about 1/4 the commercials.
