Pest Geek Pest Control Podcast Worlds #1 Pest Control Training Podcast

De: Frank Hernandez The Pest Geek
  • Resumen

  • I started the pest geek pest control podcast because i saw such a need to continuously train pest control technicians but unfortunately the only training most of us get is at the annual CEU training, but so much happens throughout the year that affects us but we never find out about it. Most pest control business are solopreneurs or small operations of less than 10 employees, between sales and service call you have to do marketing and bookkeeping, order products, and everything else that will fall on you plate that day. You don’t have time to read articles, surf the web, scourge thru magazines or much less read 180 page Phd dissertation, but you can listen to an audio version if it doesn’t interrupt your day, like on your morning commute or while you are performing a mind numbing task. I know what its like i am the founder of NaturePest and a Certified Pest Control Operator in General Household Pests and Lawn and Ornamental Pest Control in the State of Florida as well as a Certified Horticultural Specialist From Miami Dade College. Im also also a State Certified Best Management Instructor. I created the Pest Geek Podcast because i love to learn, teach and instruct as well as a love to serve others and what a wonderful way to give back. I hope this podcast will make a huge contribution to the pest management industry.

  • PGP 781 Essential Ladder Safety Tips: Avoid Accidents with OSHA Guidelines | Living the Wildlife Podcast
    May 18 2024

Welcome to another episode of the Living The Wildlife Podcast with wildlife control consultant Stephen Vantassel! In this episode, Stephen delves into essential ladder safety tips, emphasizing the importance of following OSHA guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.

Stephen highlights the critical aspects of ladder safety, starting with the need to follow all ladder markings and ensure they are readable. He stresses the importance of avoiding electrical hazards, particularly with aluminum ladders, and advises inspecting ladders for missing screws, warping, frayed ropes, and worn-out rubber feet before use.

Maintaining three-point contact—keeping two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand on the ladder—is crucial. Stephen also emphasizes the necessity of using the appropriate ladder for the job, ensuring it is rated for your weight and the equipment you carry. Keeping ladders clean and free from slippery materials is essential, as is placing ladders on stable, level surfaces and considering the use of ladder levelers.

Proper extension is another key point, with extension ladders needing to extend three rungs above the roofline or the level you're working on. Maintaining a 1:4 ratio of distance from the wall to the height of the ladder ensures the correct angle for safety. Stephen advises using cones or hazard tape in high-traffic areas to prevent accidents and checking all locks on extension ladders to ensure they are fully engaged before use.

Finally, Stephen warns against exceeding the maximum load rating of the ladder, underscoring the importance of safety to avoid serious injuries or financial setbacks. He invites feedback and suggestions for future episodes at wildlifecontrolconsultant@gmail.com.
