  • The Creator's Highs and Lows: An Emotional Survival Kit for Podcasters
    Jul 7 2024

Ever felt that post-creation vulnerability hangover? You're not alone, and today, we’re tackling it head-on! Being a creator is vastly different from being a consumer. As creators, we can experience the highest of highs when we release new episodes and get positive feedback. However, with these highs come vulnerability hangovers, where we second-guess ourselves and wonder what people are thinking.

Steph’s Personal Experience: Since starting my podcast in 2017, I've faced these highs and lows. There are moments when I feel on top of the world, but then there are times when I spiral into self-doubt, sometimes for days, weeks, or even months. Recently, I got sidetracked on social media and started feeling embarrassed. I thought, "People probably think Steph's trying to be a podcast expert. How cute." And with recent weight gain, I worried about how I looked in my posts. But then, I fact-checked these thoughts with my real achievements: producing over 500 episodes and managing 13 different series. This helped me refocus on my why: helping 4,000 podcasters overcome their struggles.

    Actionable Steps for Listeners:

    1. Fact-Check Your Thoughts: Challenge your negative thoughts with the facts of your achievements and expertise.
    2. Define Your Why: Clarify your purpose and who you want to help.
    3. Create to Overcome: When in a funk, start creating to shift your mindset from consumer to creator.

Remember that people care more about the value you provide than the imperfections you worry about. Keep pushing forward, embrace your role as a creator, and stay savvy!

  • Webinars: Turn 25% of Listeners into Clients
    Apr 7 2024

Podcasters, have you ever pondered over the puzzle of truly connecting with your audience? Sure, in your mind's eye, they might laugh at your jokes, nod along to your insights, or ponder your questions. But the reality? But let's face it—the reality is a guessing game. You're broadcasting to a virtual audience, unseen and often just beyond reach. How do you bridge that gap and transform those imagined moments into a real, tangible community?

Enter the scene: Jennifer Young, a Utah Community Credit Union Sales Manager. Jennifer dropped a truth bomb that completely flipped my perspective. She and her team have cracked a code, transforming 25% of their webinar attendees into bona fide clients, securing loans with the credit union. Imagine applying that to your business—every fourth attendee choosing to engage with you directly. And consider this: if securing a loan, which is no small decision, can be influenced through webinars, imagine the immediate impact on conversions for digital products, physical goods, or services.

Now, if you're anything like me, the idea of doing anything live sends a shiver down your spine. The thought of live questions, potential tech glitches, and the sheer unpredictability of it all? Terrifying. But here's the kicker: when I realized the power of webinars, everything changed. This isn't just broadcasting; it's engaging in a two-way conversation, solving problems in real-time, and genuinely connecting with people on a level that pre-recorded content can't reach. This insight was a game-changer for me. It transformed my fear of the live format into excitement about the possibilities of genuine connection. It's about more than just sharing content; it's about creating a space where listeners become part of your community, where headphones turn into handshakes, and where every interaction is an opportunity to deepen that connection.

Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It:

    1. Pick a Topic: Choose something you're passionate about that resonates with your audience.
    2. Set a Date: Give yourself a deadline. A goal without a timeline is just a dream. Keep it Short
    3. Promote: Email 3 weeks before, 10 days before, 3 Days Before, and the day off
    4. Deliver Value: Ensure your webinar provides attendees actionable insights and real value.
    5. Follow-up: Keep the conversation going after the webinar to nurture new connections.

The world of webinars is waiting for you. Are you in? It's time to turn those headphones into handshakes and your listeners into your community. Accept the challenge and host your first webinar. The impact could be more significant than you've ever imagined.

  • Booking Guests with Calendly
    Feb 10 2024

Hey there, Pod Nerd! Have you ever felt like you're drowning in a sea of emails to book one guest? I remember when I first started out, I relied on a trusty yellow legal pad to keep track of all my bookings. I'd jot down potential dates and cross out ones that didn’t work, and it quickly became a chaotic mess of scribbles and arrows. It was exhausting! Then I discovered Calendly, which completely transformed how I manage my guest bookings. It was like a breath of fresh air. In this episode, I'm going to share with you how Calendly can make your life so much easier.

  • Meet Your Pod Savvy Guide
    Feb 4 2024

Welcome to the very beginning of your podcasting journey! A big high-five for stepping up and getting ready to share your voice with the world. This is your launch pad, a place that celebrates the imperfect, the raw, and the real. "Embracing the Mess - The Beauty of Imperfection" encourages you to give yourself the grace to start, even if conditions aren't ideal. So, let's dive in without waiting for all the pieces to fall perfectly into place.

In 2017, I took the plunge into podcasting, but honestly, I was out of my depth. I enthusiastically picked up some gear, thinking I'd figure it out as I went along, but instead, it just sat there, collecting dust. At the same time, I wrestled with the fear & paralysis of actually starting. Then came the game-changer: booking my first guests. Getting a 'yes' from Mina, whose blog I couldn't get enough of, and Tim, recently in the local news spotlight, felt amazing. Their willingness to participate in a yet-to-launch podcast was the boost I needed. So, I decided to try out my new gear with my friend Jill, knowing she'd understand if things didn't go smoothly. We almost lost our first episode due to a simple mistake: I forgot to format the SD card. Thankfully, my brother, who knows his way around technology, fixed the issue. This experience began a learning journey filled with its fair share of overlooked record buttons and editing challenges. Hundreds of episodes later, I've come to accept that making mistakes is a natural part of the process. I always prepare a backup plan to address any issues arising during recording.
