  • EP74: Killing for Clicks
    Jul 17 2024
On an otherwise tranquil morning in May of 2012, Canada was rocked by an unthinkable crime committed by a depraved, cannibalistic, necrophiliac, 29-year-old porn star named Luka Magnotta. Luka ruthlessly murdered an innocent man, named Jun Lin, before dismembering his body and mailing his remains to various elementary schools and a political center in Canada. Armed with an ice-pick, Luka committed this heinous act as the coup de grâce to a series of violent acts committed online, in which he had the sickening audacity to harm innocent animals. This is the case of the man at the center of the Netflix documentary “Don’t F*ck With Cats,” a man who was at the center of an international manhunt after he made the callous choice to kill for clicks. TRIGGER WARNING: This episode is graphic in nature and discusses matters relating to domestic violence and animal abuse. Please listen with caution. • EP73: Exorcised to Death
    Jul 10 2024
The harrowing case of Anneliese Michel, a young German woman who endured what she believed to be sixty-seven demonic possessions in 1976, stands as one of the most shocking tales in modern history. Anneliese struggled with physical and psychological symptoms that she attributed to demonic possession, including seizures, hallucinations, severe depression, and intense delusions. As such, Anneliese (willingly?) underwent sixty-seven horrific exorcisms performed by her trusted priest, each more grueling than the last. Her relentless battle with these supposed demonic forces wound up leading to her devastating demise — a brutal, violent, and heartbreaking end to her struggle against spiritual warfare. Anneliese's story is a haunting blend of fear, faith, and human suffering, making it one of the most compelling and tragic accounts of exorcism ever recorded. This case challenges the boundaries of belief and delves deep into the complexities of human endurance, conviction, and religious devotion. UPDATE: On the day on which this update was recorded, a significant development occurred in the case of Lucy Letby, a former nurse who ruthlessly and deliberately murdered seven newborn babies at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital in England. If you have not yet listened, be sure to check out our full coverage of the entire case in our two episodes, Nightmare Nurse: Lucy Letby (Part 1 and 2). Please listen with caution. For nearly a full year between June 2015 and June 2016, the neonatal unit at Countess of Chester Hospital in England was plagued by a series of heart-wrenching and inexplicable infant deaths at a rate that was not just alarming, but also statistically unusual and significant. Tragically, newborn baby fatalities and/or near-death collapses were occuring abruptly and often, and crucially, under the care and supervision of one young nurse named Lucy Letby. As the expression goes: once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. Seventeen times (at least) is the work of the most prolific child serial killer in modern UK history. • EP72: Cannibal Cop
    Jul 3 2024
Should merely fantasizing about abducting, murdering, cooking, and eating women be treated with the same severity as committing the crime itself? This paradox is starkly illustrated in the case of New York Police Department officer Gilberto Valle, who frequented the Dark Web to share his violent and twisted sexual fantasies of abducting, murdering, cooking, and eating women. His case strikes at the heart of freedom of conscience, a fundamental human right that allows for the exploration of ideas within the private sanctuary of the mind. However, while this freedom is essential for creativity and moral deliberation, the potential for thoughts to manifest into actions cannot be ignored, either. The line between thought and deed can blur, especially when considering premeditation in criminal law. This is the absolutely fascinating and disturbing case of The Cannibal Cop. • EP71: Skate or Die
    Jun 26 2024
Amidst the whirlwind of fame and adrenaline in the skateboarding world of the 1980s, Mark "Gator" Rogowski's unique style and creative tricks dominated the scene, making him a household name and a hero to aspiring skaters everywhere. His presence at any event guaranteed a spectacle, as he seemed to possess an almost supernatural ability to defy the laws of physics. Yet, as the adage goes, "what goes up, must come down." Because beneath the surface of Gator's seemingly perfect life, darker issues lurked. Personal struggles and erratic behavior began to overshadow his achievements, and the same intensity that once fueled his success on the ramps drove him to commit a heinous act of brutality against an innocent 21-year-old woman named Jessica Bergsten. Jessica's tragic death, and the violence that she suffered in her final moments, was absolutely horrific, and shocked not just her devastated family and the skateboarding community, but the entire world. • EP70: O.J. Simpson Case of Kazakhstan
    Jun 19 2024
In 2023, a beautiful 31-year-old young woman named Saltanat Nukenova was beaten to death for eight hours straight by her violent husband, the former Minister of Economy in Kazakhstan, Kuandyk Bishimbayev. The couple had been married for less than a year, and throughout this short time, the powerful former politician brutalized Saltanat behind closed doors while publicly continuing to rub elbows with the nation's elite. Given the entrenched patriarchy surrounding Saltanat and her husband's ties to the nation's elite, this innocent woman was left with virtually no options for escape. As a result, tragically, she paid for this dire fact with her life. Saltanat's heartbreaking death became an international battle cry for legal reform and women's rights in Kazakhstan, as hundreds of thousands of people, including her loving family, demanded protective rights be instilled, leading to significant changes in domestic violence laws.
