Purple Rain: The 40th Anniversary

  • Summary

  • The 80’s. Queer. Rock and Roll. R& B. Legends. Trauma. Death to ego. Rebirth of self. Lake Minnetonka. Jerome. Morris. Apollonia. The Kid.

40 years later, Purple ☔️ Rain is still classic. A gift of musical art, a visual master piece from the musical genius, Prince. Though problematic, some may argue that Purple ☔️ Rain was the response to Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Motown as a whole. It was his entrance into mainstream media, bringing along sex, misogyny, sexism, abuse and family trauma that placed Minneapolis in a position to hold its own musically.

With our special guest, movie and culture expert Dr. Michelle Taylor, join us as we wrap up Black Music Month and revisit Patrick’s FAVORITE movie of all time, Purple ☔️ Rain.
