Digital communications, Australia and…the land army?

Today’s guest, Emily Ashworth will probably be one of the most heard people in the sector. After some time in Australia where she started a food blog Emily found herself back in the UK!

10 years on and the best part of it with the Farmers Guardian we covered the intimacy of sharing the stories of a sector.

On top of this Emily has a deep interest in World War Two with a particular focus on the Land Army in which she has actually written a book!

Young Farmers, Trees and Dancing around the world!

Couple weeks ago we welcomed Ally Brunton, the new national chair of SAYFC. Today we bring on his deputy, Jillian Kennedy!

Jillian who was brought up on a farm found herself in a graduate scheme with Scottish woodlands, 6 years later she is now I’m management with the organisation!

Jillian travel the world across three continents with highland dancing and has been recently voted on as SAYFC vice national chair.

Great proof YF members don’t need to be actively farming and a great advocate for people in forestry!

Open farms, fighting for farmers and a cow zip line?!

Today we welcome our current national woman in agriculture, Abi Reader. Abi is a fantastic advocate for the sector with a dairy and sheep farm at home she operates as the deputy president of NFU Cymru.

She finds herself teaching food and farming in various schools across the nation and is consistently fighting the core of the sector.

Tales of a Nuffield Scholar

Continuing on our Nuffield Alumni Podcast we welcome Chris Taylor. I was lucky enough to watch Chris’ presentation at the conference in Exeter last year!

Christ tells his story not coming from farming before taking on a milking job and being hooked!

Studying at harper, BASIS, Nuffield spanning two continents and more has led Chris to his current role as Chief Agronomist at N2 Applied.

Chris also sits on the board of Nuffield and is a true advocate for the organisation!

Today’s guest, Megan Mulholland left South Africa with her husband and 2 year old in 2018 with the plan of heading to Yorkshire. After landing they haven’t left the area!

Megan is now the farm manager which involves what you expect…plus running three state of the art houses.

We speak the differences between various things in the UK and RSA!

Marketing, zoos and farming!

I met today’s guest over email a couple years ago when she helped make the Adam Henson podcast possible!!

Charlotte Evans isn’t from this sector but has deep dived in through the medium of marketing! Operating at the Cotswold farm park originally and now with StowAg (you might recognise that name from the hat on Jeremy throughout Clarkson farm season three).

She’s actively involved with Chester Zoo and much more! She seems to be one of those folks that can fit a ridiculous amount into a day!

Lleynwicks, getting into farming and raising a wee one on the farm!

Today’s guests embody the reason I started a podcast. What are the potential jobs in this sector and firstly how do you make it into this industry?

The sector is directly barriered to entry and these guys have earned their spot but required a self proclaimed dose of luck!

Ella and Lawrence Martin are in their first tenancy! Ella is a vet nurse that Lawrence has successfully converted to full time farmer…while still operating as a full time vet nurse!

Lawrence with very little ties to the sector knew it was for him since he was a kid, working full time through farm jobs, getting an apprenticeship has led the pair of them to the situation they’re in now!

Sorry for talking about Baby Reindeer so much!
