  • Pining for Pixels # 71 - Hidden Gem: The Gimmick Series
    Sep 10 2024

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

Hidden Gem is a new segment that is intended to shine a light on great games that don't get the spotlight they deserve. It is a way to try to tell people about games they may love if only they knew about them. What better way to start than with the Gimmick series? The original Famicom/NES game is an under-rated classic that got forgotten due to its release in the SNES era, but it has persisted as a cult classic, and very recently, it got a beautiful sequel that lives up to it's name. Tune in to learn about why you should play both these games and why this franchise has stayed in the minds of those who played it from the beginning. There is a good chance this might be one of your new favourites.

  • Saving Throes # 70 - Crowing From the Perch: Tournament Style Play
    Sep 5 2024

Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.

D&D has a long and rich history of gaming tournaments, and this has produced some of the most memorable published scenarios in the game's history so far. Tournament style play can be difficult to arrange and execute properly, but if you get a chance to be a part of it, it is worth the effort in my opinion. In this episode I just wanted to geek out a bit about my appreciation for this style of play. From the fabled D&D Open which has long been a part of the game, if not every single year, to the PVP stylings of other 3rd party tournaments, this is a style of game that can really set your game or convention apart from the others. Tune in to hear about the different styles of tournament play and which ones I have had the good fortune of being part of, as well as which one my group came out the champions of!

  • Pining for Pixels # 70 - Spotlight: Tengo Project
    Sep 3 2024

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

The name Tengo Project might not be familiar to you, but there is a chance one or more of their recent games are. This is the development team within Natsume that is behind some of the best re-visits to old SNES titles on modern hardware in recent years. I am not talking about emulating the classics or packaged collections, but instead, lovingly restored and re-worked classics that have been re-built from the ground up with a masterful touch in retaining the SNES 16-bit style aesthetic they are known for. These guys make games the way you lovingly remember playing and experiencing, but in reality, these reimagined games of yore are much more technically proficient than their predecessors. Tune in to hear what games this small trio of developers have worked miracles with, and if you haven't played any of their games yet, but are a fan of retro gaming - get ready to discover modern day masterpieces that will be right up your alley!
