Remember That Guy?

By: James Diaz and Xavier
  • Summary

  • The show where we mine our memories for nuggets of nostalgia about peripheral players past and present.

Every week, Hosts Diaz and James (along with Very Special Guest Xavier) do what sports fans love to do best: sit around and Remember Some Guys.

But just what is a Guy? To paraphrase Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of [players] I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description [...] But I know it when I see it".

Whether it's a perennial postseason over-performer, a hometown hero who only appears that way through rose colored glasses, or just a really great story that has to be shared - Guys of every shape, size, sport, and gender are welcome in the storied halls of our memories.

So sit back, relax, and stop worrying about playoff positioning, draft order, or the dreaded salary cap. Take some time, instead, to Remember That Guy.

  • RTG? 100.1: Bob Costas's Pink-Guy
    Jul 29 2024

It's a Leap Year, it's an Election Year, and for the first time since 2016 it's a true Summer Olympics Year. To celebrate, the Guy-bunal takes a Summer Break as Hosts James and Diaz welcome Very Special Guest Xavier onto the show for a casual conversation about some of their most anticipated Olympic antics and events from the 2024 Paris Games.

James dives into equal opportunity synchronization (15:22); Xavier breaks down his new favorite sport (22:56); Diaz flags a future event for the audience to consider (33:01); Xavier has that same audience climb in for a sophomore event that rocks (39:08); the team, much like a summer thunderstorm, fire off a quick lightning round of some notes on other events (44:40); before James finishes up with one last point all about pointy ends (49:32). Then all that's left is to bid au revoir at our own closing ceremony. (54:13)

Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from NBA on NBC, Saturday Night Live, Inside the NBA, and Animal Planet

  • RTG? 100: Reliti-Guy-tion X (2001)
    Jul 22 2024

It's a centennial celebration and Hosts James and Diaz bring back Very Special Guest Xavier so that the Guy-bunal can commence the 10th edition of Reliti-Guy-tion.

James might be the one to get things kicked off (16:04); but it really takes off when Diaz gets the controls (20:56); followed by Xavier continuing some high flying acrobatics (24:07); and then watching from the periphery of more spectacular acrobatics (29:11); to distract from Diaz's bonehead move (32:55); that James is there to beautifully document photographically (39:48). But wait, there's more this time, as they go even further into the back catalogue to experience truly Mortal Kombat (45:10); experience agonizing defeat (51:04); and drive stylishly into the rising sun (54:50). All that's left is an unprecedented number of inductions into the Hall of Guy and like maybe just a little something else (1:01:50).

Special thanks to Johnny Stanton IV, Brooks Rudy, LJ Rader, and Andrew Unterberger

Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from ABC, Animal Planet, MLB on Fox, and YES Network

  • RTG? 099: Get Rich Or Die Guy-ing
    Jul 15 2024

The Guy-bunal is diving back into rings discourse; but this time, when Hosts James and Diaz bring on Very Special Guest Xavier to discuss the rings of the Olympic variety as they delve into the topic of Guys In Previously Undiscussed Olympic Sports.

Diaz is the first one to get a hand on the ball discussing a princely Guy from Denmark (17:21); Xavier rides in after him, in a choreographed fashion (44:09); and James is the last to take a shot as they trot out a Guy who never won a bronze but did win for a bronze (1:05:36). All of these Guys received the honor of representing their countries in the Olympic games, but which will get the honor to continue that representation inside the prestigious Hall of Guy? (1:31:01)

Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from TV 2 Sport (DEN) and NBC Sports
