  • Word 4 word What a piece of work is a man Part 2
    Jan 11 2024

For this episode you will need to have memorized the skeleton of Hamlet’s speech beginning 'I have of late' where he describes his current mood and then he expounds upon his perception of mankind in general. It is a marvellous speech and great to quote when you are indulging in a bout of cynicism. Here I make suggestions for the extra words yet to be memorized. Many of them fit naturally around the keywords already learned but some smaller words such as ‘and’ ‘for’ ‘but’ ‘it’ ‘that’ can trip you up so I will cover them all. Use what images help or will perhaps lead you to finding your own. Finally, to remind you, you are not learning line by line but thought by thought with their embellishments.

  • Word 4 Word 'What a piece of work is a man' Part 1
    Dec 27 2023

Are you a fan of 'Withnail and I' and do you remember Richard E Grant and the brilliant, but sombre ending, set in the pouring rain?
This Episode concerns that famous speech from Hamlet where he describes his latest mood to his ‘excellent good friends’ Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Hamlet begins: 'I have of late, but wherefore I know not, lost all my mirth'.

Part 1 examines the construction of the speech and how to memorize its 'skeleton' and in Part 2, the extra words are added to memorize this classic speech 'Word for Word'.

  • NAMES AND FACES

How to remember Names and Faces.

Being able to remember the names and faces of people you meet either socially or in business is a great benefit and can be generally improved and in the case of listed attendees at meetings, workshops or conferences solved entirely with a little effort - as demonstrated in this podcast.

  • 16 REMEMBERING DATES
    Oct 28 2023

This is a good exercise for practising The Major System. I decided to take The 10 Most Important Moments in History as an interesting set of dates and chose the site Owlcation to use which covers the History of the World from the Neolithic Revolution through to the end of the Cold War in 1989. In addition to the 10 dates, I have also added in some highlights of the Renaissance and as extra practice for long numbers - the speed of light.

  • LEARNING A DECK OF CARDS - after they are shuffled. Part 2
    Sep 19 2023

This is a sample unique linking story for a randomly shuffled deck of cards. It demonstrates how to look for connections and make a story out of any set of random cards. Superficially it is only of use if you are a dedicated card player, interested in what cards have been played or just wish to impress friends with a clever trick, but fundamentally it is great for practising the linking, rhyming and shape techniques and excellent for exercising the imagination

  • LEARNING A DECK OF CARDS - after they are shuffled
    Sep 9 2023

This episode is about memorising a pack of cards after they are shuffled. Apart from the fun element, you may never need this skill, and it is very challenging in one way. The reason is that Stephen Fry on QI, recreated the maths based on 52 cards in each deck and the total possible combination. The result would equal 8.06e+67. This number is MASSIVE. On Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/theydidthemath/comments/1x4mw3/just_how_many_possible_card_combinations_are_there/ it was explained as follows: Say that there exist 10 Billion people on every planet, 1 Billion planets in every solar system, 200 Billion solar systems in every galaxy, and 500 Billion galaxies in the universe. If every single person on every planet has been shuffling decks of cards completely at random at 1 Million shuffles per second since the BEGINNING OF TIME, every possible deck combination would still yet be "shuffled"
