  • How to Help Your Kids from Being Targeted by Sexual Predators
    Sep 14 2022

Predators are looking for kids who will keep a secret and not know how to say no. We can make our kids less likely to be sexually abused if we teach them to assertively say NO. In this episode, I teach practical and low key ways you can teach your kids to say no to things that make them feel uncomfortable.

  • Lessons in Consent from Burning Man
    Sep 7 2022

    Burning Man has 10 principles...but it's also got a bonus 11th: CONSENT.

2022 was my 10th time at Burning Man and it's the first place I really learned about consent, way back in the year 2000.

In this podcast, I share ways we can translate the lessons from Burning Man into educating youth about consent across the board, whether it be with taking photos, offering gifts or whether or not hugs are on the menu.

  • Gendered Language Matters
    Aug 9 2022

For people who do not identify as exclusively male or female, gendered language can be as insulting as a racial slur. It can cut deep because it infers that there are only two options for gender and that anything else is invisible and unimportant.

In this episode, Kristy shares examples of gendered language she experienced while piloting her programs in several schools. She also offers simple phrase substitutions for archaic ways of addressing groups of children such as 'boys and 'girls' and 'ladies and gentlemen.'

From "Gendered Language: Psychological Principles, Evolving Practices, and Inclusive Policies:

"Gendered language contributes to gender biases by making gender salient, treating gender as a binary category and causing stereotypic views of gender."
