  • That Time Japan Absolutely Rinsed Russia, Part One: The Race For Manchuria
    Feb 11 2025

Two Empires. One region, in tenuous balance. While often forgotten in the modern day, the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 was a pivotal turning point in early 20th century geopolitics. On one side, the vast Russian Empire: having established control over Siberia, Nicholas II seeks to secure outlets to the Pacific. On the other side of the conflict, an expansionist Japan rushes headlong toward modernity and empire. Something has to give. In the first part of this week's two-part series, Ben, Noel and Max explore the massive consequences of the Russo-Japanese war, and how the consequences of this conflict resonate in the modern day. (Spoiler, neither empire bothered to ask the actual people of Manchuria for their opinion.)

Great show to learn bits of missed history.

Sometimes wacky, crazy, dare I say ridiculous historical moments from Clown juice that became pink lemonade to the US Navy defeating their enemies with potatoes! Ben and Nole with their Super Producers cover various topics. They can sometimes get trapped down rabbit holes but they will then usually bring things back around with a 2 parter. As extra fun beware the Quizzster at the end of some episodes!

Insanely informative and always entertaining!

I was hooked on "The Stuff They Don't Want You To Know", then I found this podcast with some of the same hosts. I'm so excited that I get to listen to a while new library of amazing history. Keep up the amazing work!
