  • Beyond the Buzzword: Addressing True Bullying with Our Kids
    Jul 15 2024

In this episode, we delve into the complex and sensitive issue of bullying, exploring its definition, the power of the word, its overuse and misuse, and the challenges parents face in handling it with their children.

Our discussion starts with defining bullying as unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance, and is repeated or has the potential to be repeated over time.

Caitlin highlights how the topic is often considered taboo, making it difficult to bring up casually. She shares a personal story about her daughter Annabelle being bullied in kindergarten and the initial lack of response from the teacher. Caitlin raises important questions for new parents about how to handle bullying, who to call, and what to teach their children. We also ponder whether movies dramatize bullying and share our own childhood experiences of being picked on.

Other key points include concerns about navigating bullying, particularly when parents are not present at school to witness incidents firsthand. There is also the challenge of distinguishing between a mean comment and targeted bullying.

Join us for an honest and insightful conversation as we tackle the realities of bullying, the importance of proper identification, and the best ways to support our children through these difficult situations.

Welcome to another episode of Room 4 Four, where four moms come together to talk about everything you’d chat about at a coffee date with your best mom friend.. In this episode, we dive into how to tackle tough topics with kids. Whether it's discussing death, current events, or other difficult subjects, we explore the ways we approach these conversations with our children.

Kallie, who has young, curious children, believes in selective truth, sharing information without sugarcoating but leaving out details she feels her kids aren’t ready for. Charlotte uses books and open conversations to engage her children, asking them directly about their feelings and sharing her own emotions aloud.
