As the UK forges to head with gigabit rollout to under-served and rural areas we’ve seen a rise in alternative networks (AltNets) providing the telecoms industry with a timely boost. The UK government plans to provide over 15 million homes and businesses with gigabit-capable broadband by the end of 2025.

At the recent London Internet Exchange member meeting (LINX116) a panel session took place covering many of the key issues for the sector. It was such an interesting discussion that we’ve decided to do a playback of that panel session. The panelists featured were:

• Adam Gosling, Network Architect at CityFibre
• James Blessing, Head of IT Development at Freedom Fibre
• Doug Williams, Director of Network Operations at Ogi

To preview the playback we caught up with panel moderator, Simon Beevers. In addition to finding out more about AltNets, and his career in telecoms, we also covered his role on the LINX program committee otherwise known as the LPC. The LPC is made up of professionals from the LINX community to help plan the content for our membership meetings.
