  • Healing Reefs, One River at a Time
    Jul 11 2024

Did you know that 80% of ocean pollution comes from inland sources? Today, we're excited to learn more with Reef Healers Chloe Rogozinski and Austin Niles.

Chloe and Austin started the Reef Healers organization to promote healthy oceans and water resources, climate-aware action, and resilient communities through an All-for-one approach.

With their roots in Colorado, a critical headwater state, Chloe and Austin realized the shared responsibility to preserve freshwater resources for the health of oceans and communities downstream.

There is a common misconception that inland communities and individual actions do NOT contribute to the decline in ocean health.

Reef Healers knew this couldn't be further from the truth, and it was causing lasting damage to the planet. This disconnect is why is they started this important organization. To raise awareness around the power of collective action and create a revenue stream to protect Rivers and Reefs.

SPECIAL GUEST Amy Capello (Miss Amy) is here talking turtles!!!

Amy is the owner of Pure Joy Life Coaching - AND - she volunteers with the Tybee Island Sea Turtle Project. She's also an "extra-special guest" because she was a huge inspiration for Liddy to write her first book, "Wave - A Sea Turtle's Story".

Miss Amy also reminds us that "we are all touched by the ocean" - and that's why it's so important that we continue to educate ourselves and others.

  • Beaches, and Buckets and Grabbers - OH MY! How to Fight Dirty Against Plastic-Pollution
    Jun 13 2024

According to statistics from 2024, at least 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year. The amount of trash on beaches is staggering. During the 2021 International Coastal Cleanup in the United States, approximately 3 million waste items were collected, including 500,000 cigarette butts, food wrappers, and plastic bottle caps.

That's why Conservation Heroes like our next guest are so important! Meet Timothy Arnold (better known as Mr. Tim), the founder of Tybee Clean Beach. This much-needed nonprofit organization - also known as Fight Dirty Tybee - was started with a simple premise: get a group of people together that are fiercely determined to clean up Tybee Island, arm them with grabbers and buckets, and hit the beach frequently – several times a month – to get that trash off the beach. After they remove the trash, they often sort it, count it, and store it until it’s time to reuse, recycle, or make art with what they collect.
